Your question is a bit confusing - are you asking how do you measure the bandwidth usage of your site? That is sometimes difficult to do. If your site is pretty simple -- everything is HTTP and goes in/out standard web service -- you could process the logs and form an estimate. Or you could ask your existing hosting provider to give you an estimate. Most of the ISP's on this forum will quote you a burstable link and charge you a rate for a certain amount of bandwidth PER MONTH. So 60/GB month for $200 as an example. If you are asking how they measure it - it depends. Some do "95th percentile", some do "actual bytes in/out" and various other schemes. You basically have to ask the provider. It seems that "95th percentile" is pretty common. There are some threads on the forum that explain how the ISP calculates that. Questions I would recommend you try to answer: -- Does your site do downloads? Heavy graphics? -- Do you expect that you will have peak periods, or is the site busy all the time? That should get you started. Good luck. |
