View Full Version : Servermatrix and Bouncing Emails or Blacklists

Hi,

I'm considering moving a few boxes to server matrix and need to know if anyone has any trouble with bouncing emails due to blacklists, we are moving away from an isp which caused tremendous hassle due to their blacklisted ips with the blocklists and more.

Has anyone had any problems with servermatrix that a new customer should be aware of? So far from my research on uptime and tech support they seem ok, but if you have had a bad experience i'd like to know before I move over a bunch of boxes.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,

I have been with them for a month now and I have yet to see any problems with them. Even though they may need to do some work in getting the response times down, they do have a 2 ring SLA which is nice.

Here is a link to what I consider to be an outstanding post by the planet's abuse guy back in October of this year:

So from that I read that it was a problem in the past, currently is it still a problem?

Has the spews issue and whatever other email related black lists issues been resolved?

I have 1 colo at SM and so far so good. My IP was listed in SPEWS when my server was set up but they seem to have taken care of all of their spam problems. I've only had to deal with support once for a reboot and I think it took around 30 minutes. Not bad, but not that great either. They also quoted me $75 to install a stick of ram if I mailed it to them, which seems just a bit insane for a 10 minute job...

When did you setup your server?

I just setup the server a few days ago at SM - checked the IP's for blacklists using dnsstuff.com and a couple of other places, and none of the IP's were listed at all.

YMMV, but that was my experience.

i would *expect* that they are able to provide clean ips, even if some of their space is still listed. they seem to have a better handle on the situation now, so i can see their remaining listed space getting delisted in the future.

with that saidm if your *only* problem with your current isp is listed ips, you should look into getting a mail server on a different network to route your mail through, while maintaining your current setup. i know your current configuration is quite involved, so that may be a worthwhile option to consider.

No problem here. If you do happened to be on an IP on SPEW, I am sure you could contact them and have them handle it for you.

It's not the only problem, I've tried resolving it for a few months and I've pretty much had it.

Forwarding through another isp only works on certain types of block lists because the sending server ip that forwards to the email server is still listed as a spam ip. It works to a point but mostly it still sucks.

Instead of 1 possible failure on a box now if ANY of the two go down you're screwed and SOL.

For this kind of money I think the least they can do is provide me with is a Clean IP, a Constant Connection, and someone that picks up the phone and actually does something about the problem.

I'm happy to consider servermatrix if they can offer me that much. Price is not the main concern here, its the hassle of moving and setting up something this big.

Please note I am just asking about servermatrix because I am considering them as a hosting provider. My problem was with my old host not servermatrix..

Have you considered contacting Servermatrix directly about your requirements ? I am sure they are at a better position to answer your question.

Post said sales is on holiday till monday, but I prefer grass roots experience here, every host says "oh its not a problem" but it is a problem, and I like to get the straight scoop from people who that problem would affect the most.

AFAIK, the past issues have been resolved pretty thoroughly. At one point there was a fairly substantial chunk of servermatrix/the planet IP space listed w/spews; that listing went away right about the same time that Mr. Nuckolls made his presence known as the new abuse guy.

if cost is not an issue, while uptime is, i would strongly suggest going with the 'theplanet' line of servers, which offer redundant connectivity (per TP reps). SM dropped when the core died at one point for a couple hours, if memory serves. TP customers that were provisioned on the TP cores stayed up. ThePlanet and ServerMatrix are the same company.
