View Full Version : About the Community Leaders page?

I would really like to see an "About Page" for our Community Leaders. Primarily, because I don't know much about most of them and it's always nice to read about who the mods are in "real life" (as if any have a real life).

Plus, I find myself typing the first names of the mods and than removing it since a lot of people wouldn't have a clue who I'm talking about... So Chris, Jan, Dennis, Mathew, (you should all feel special since I'm horrible with names ;)) let's see an "About Us" ;).

DISCLAIMER: I take no responsibility in not knowing the names of other mods. ;)

To be honest what would be the point? If people want to get to know them then they should talk to them.

I'd like to see a page that lists the structure of the mods. List the Community Leaders through to the Community Guides, and the roles/responsibility of each mod level. There's so many mods now :) it's hard to keep track and it would be nice to know. :)

Justin, you'd be dead by now if you didn't have that disclaimer. :D

Whew... I almost forgot it too :D.

That's even better I think.

Although I agree this would be idea... the mods don't have time to talk to the 30,000+ active members here :).

What are Liaisons and Guides you ask? They are the next installment in Community Leaders.

Community Liaisons are akin to Forum Specific Moderators. As a Community Liaison, you would lead the Forum in meaningful discussion. You would close threads that needed closing. And warn members that needed warning. You would, also, be the first point of contact to assist Community Guides.

As a Community Guide, you would help lead the Forum in meaningful discussion and report posts that need reporting.

:agree:

Exactly what I'm thinking. I would also like to see the current Community Administration structure as its always useful to know who is who and who manages what.

My vote goes to creating that page.

Best,

We're trying to get lots of things done for the coming year. And this is surely something we can work into.

I think perhaps a page explaining what the mod positions are is a good idea, but why would you need to know about their personal lives? As Joseph suggested, if you want to know about them, talk to them. ;)

who are the new community Liaisons and Guides ? or is it not decided yet?

We want to get vBulletin upgraded first and some other backend work done before we install the new Liaisons. Any that you see now were here before we took aps.

SWR, i certainly hope you don't mean upgraded to vB 3.x? Because that will surely take months.

vB 3 ain't gonna be an option for a long time it appears. :)

I agree, it seems that these days anything you upgrade goes bad.

I don't know, that page has always been there, it is part of vbulletin.

I was hoping for a mod answer frozen. ;) I know that the page has been there, but I was just wondering if the list there is the complete list of the installed liaisons/guides or if there will be more.

Joseph_M

There will be no more Guides/Liaisons for the time being.

Hope This Helped!

Joe

Thanks. I'm a bit dissappointed, but guess I wasn't good enough or either spoke out too much against what was being done. ;)

There were literally hundreds of applications for only a few places, unfortunately not everyone got a place, however there's always room for changes, and I expect people will have priviledges taken away / awarded as time goes on and the CLs get to know who's doing what.

Yep, that's a step in the right direction.

Although I'm still to figure out what a "Community Guide" does?

As a Community Guide, you would help lead the Forum in meaningful discussion and report posts that need reporting.

They help patrol their assigned forum and keep the discussions going and are an extra eye for the mods in reporting abuse.

Community guides basically ensure that the forum runs smoothly, and that any conflicts of agreement between people don't blow up into full-scale flamewars. They're global (not assigned a particular forum), so you'll see us popping up all over the place!

So, They have installed all the new guides..

All the Guides were installed first, and only yesterday were the Liaisons installed.

So Community Lisasons have mod access over their specific forums [can edit posts etc], where as the Community Guides don't?

I applaud the mods deciding to have different level and colored mods. Great idea and a good delegationary approach. :D I just don't understand the effectiveness of the Community Guides, when you have Community Liasons working under the main mods too.

Hey, don't get me wrong, the more levels of mods the better. I'm just having trouble figuring out where the Community Guides fit in and their function etc.

No offense to the Guides, but it sounds like a glorified "Official Post Reporter". Basically, they try to keep threads on topic and if a problem arises they make the Liaisons and Leaders aware of it. Seems like a bright idea. I personally report any threads I feel neccesary but it will be nice to have people that are there specifically for that purpose.

Their main job is reporting.. And they generally participate in certain that pertain to their area of experince.. So they can help 'guide' topics...

Techark summed things up pretty well. AFAIK, all new liaisons and guides have been installed already. However, some liaisons still do not have access to the mod control panel. They can still move threads to the trash bin though.

This should be settled tomorrow, when the new backend changes will have hopefully come into place already.

I can't wait.

Well, hate to say I told you so...but I did. I hope that the requests clear up for you guys sooner or later so there is less mod work for you to do.
