Best,
LP-Trel 11-26-2003, 12:07 AM I remember you starting this project.. what exactly has become of it?
This could be interesting to watch and/or participate in. :D
Artashes 11-26-2003, 12:33 AM Well, plenty of new stuff happened since this thread:
http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=204688
Got some amazing people involved who donate their skills, time and resources, like domains or scripting, since the testing process needs to be well controlled. We still look for all kind of volunteers, including those who will be downloading files from testing sites.
Private forum was established for participants - Honest Joes to discuss and manage the project.
PS: Got my first target and, listen to this - the company went belly up before I could sign up for it!
Best,
UH-Matt 11-26-2003, 08:22 AM Ive bookmarked this one, a brilliant idea and I cant wait to see episode one :)

Same Here... :)
JonathanVH 11-26-2003, 10:42 AM Not a bad idea, it is always good to have the information around and to hopefully get it through to those that offer unlimited space/bandwidth that there is no such thing and that they are simply cheating their customer(s) out of money.
I'll be signing up later as I think it will be interesting to see just what becomes of this or has became since there was already a previous thread about it mentioned above.
I can see how a webhost would be affected though, should they donate a domain or such as it could easily be interpreted as the host trying to put another out of business (not that they really need our help, of course ;)).
Good luck with the project and keep us updated on any further progress you make, I am sure this will be interesting!
Artashes 11-26-2003, 11:54 AM Thank you, all. Episode 1 of Season 1 is in the making. :)
In the meantime, a few people asked me how we're able to control the testing. Well, here is a little more info on that:
1. we document each and every step of the way.
2. for now we pick hosts that offer insane offers like 40-100GB offers for 2-4 dollars per month type of packages. in that case I'm safe based on their TOS.
3. the testing web site is powered by smart scripts that allows little less than a required daily spending in terms of bandwidth. So that if a company is to offer 60 GB, we set the script to not allow more than 2 GB in daily transfer.
4. IF we choose to test an unlimited host (its get tougher with the understanding their TOS), we set the amount to 1 GB of daily bandwidth, since: a) they offer unlimited, so its understandable we could use at least 30 GB and b) it is a safe way to go - no shared environment is being dangered by 1 GB of daily transfer, so the host can't say we were "monopolizing" resources - that would be just silly and host professionals know that.
Best,
ozgression 11-26-2003, 08:31 PM Great idea... good luck with it!
Artashes 11-26-2003, 09:43 PM External individual funds now total $40! Thank you all.
bigeasy 11-27-2003, 05:40 AM How about hosts who offer 80/350 for $25 (i screw them flat with "extra charges")? That's one of my companies, so please don't whack it (name's hostaspire <dot> com)
i basically try to educate them that its impossible to get that deal for $25 and expect 99% uptime (even then, its a day down), and then get them to my main hosting business
Ok with you? customers usually stay there for only about 1-2 months max :) or pay more/get smaller packages
Artashes 11-27-2003, 01:25 PM Splot, I'm sorry, but I didn't quite get what your post was about...
But this is definitely something new. Coming from your web page (second paragraph):
http://www.hostaspire.com/company/background.html
This business would not have been possible in any way without our Lord and CEO, Jesus Christ.
Also, you say you host 23,000 web sites internationally on your home page yet your support forum has only 2 members. Do you imagine how misleading this is for people who are not fluent with hosting subject?
EDIT: Oh, and if you're trying to advertise yourself in your post (it was confusing as I already mentioned), then I ask you to please start a new thread.
bigeasy 11-28-2003, 05:00 AM oops, sorry, maybe i was a little too self *erm* righteous (whatever)
Big apologies to people who are confused :P
Erm, as for the second paragraph, its supposed to be an "on" thing in ebay to put your company as that. Pulls in an extra 2 customers a month (web-xperts.com started that, and i get emails like "what religion are you?", i mean, if you're looking for a host, i don't see why a buddhist/roman catholic could do a good job too)
Anyway, yeah, i'm a christian, so please don't slam me for that. Its kinda true in a way, but i don't want to turn this into a religious war (imagines one of you people chasing me with a nord battle axe)
Basically the 23,000 domains are the total number of domains i host, and those under hostaspire are <drumroll> 4. I'm redirecting most of these people to my main hosting company OR reducing their packages OR bring them to WHT to find them a package i don't have (like plesk/ensim).
And, to clear stuff up, the 23,000 domains are mostly under resellers, its pretty hard to have 23,000 domains under yourself and not be a billionaire or something (unless you are a domain registrar)
Sorry for spoiling your thread, editing my post now :)
Website Rob 11-28-2003, 05:15 AM Not sure I understand the post?
The link you provided goes a to one-page description and Newsletter signup? And yet, you make mention of "What critics say about "Honest Joe" Reality Series" and also state "Episode 1 of Season 1 is in the making."
If no Episodes have been created and made available, how can people critique them?
It is an interesting concept and, if handled properly (as it looks like it will be) could be most enlightening for many people -- as well as helping to point out and get rid of the undesirable Hosters.

If by people you mean the overall crowd, then this show is a critic by itself and it needs no critique from other people.
If by people you mean those "What critics say about..." thing, then I guess if you look closely you'll see it is a joke, unless the White House would make a comment or if there is really a Kiddie Host Magazine... :)
As for the page, it describes the whole project, not just invites people to sign up for a newsletter as you say. First you build up the audience and anticipation, then you release the show. In fact, I expect the first episode within 9-12 days.
Best,
Website Rob 11-28-2003, 09:02 PM Humour is such a subjective thing.
Not only do I, not read every word of every post, but probably others as well. Somethng I'll have to remind myself of. :)
