Actor Jonathan Brandis, who began his television and film career as a child star, has died, the victim of an apparent suicide. He was 27.

Brandis was best known for his portrayal of crewmember Lucas Wolenczek on two seasons of Steven Spielberg's underwater sci-fi series, SeaQuest DSV, which catapulted him to teen-idol status.

Three years younger than I am. It's sad to see someone with a full life ahead of them feel the need to do something so extreme.

What i think is really disturbing is that people my age have have had heart attacks and died. i'm only 46.

On that subject, a girl I went to school with over a 13 years ago had a stroke one night in the shower three years after we graduated. It seems she's close to being in a 'vegative state' now (has to be tube fed), and was around 20 when it happened. Beautiful girl (part of the 'popular group' in school).

Suicide I'll never understand, but when it comes to things such as early death from medical issues or chronic disability, it's just sad.
