View Full Version : Hosts Unite and Help
IntraHost 09-12-2001, 01:22 AM Sorry to be posting this here, but I figured it would be the best place to get most visibility.
Many people all over the world are wondering what they can help. Please, hosting firms and hosting customers alike, donate your money, time, blood, anything, to the American Red Cross.
A few ways to donate:
http://www.redcross.org
http://www.amazon.com
http://www.paypal.com
Please add other places to donate too.
September 11th, 2001 will be a day that will live in infamy. September 12th, 2001 will be a day that will be remembered for the support. Give your support, however you can, be it money, blankets, or more importantly prayers.
I invite you to put a link from your website to any donation website available so that you can spread the word on these issues.
Thanks,
Jeff Link

AH-Tina 09-12-2001, 12:58 PM We are donating as well.
CAN WE ALL DO THIS:
I was thinking of sending out a mailing to all of our customers asking them to donate as well. I was thinking that we could setup an "order" form for this and offer free hosting to anyone willing to donate.
Does anyone know of any tax reporting procedures or reasons why we can't/shouldn't do this???

DanielP 09-12-2001, 01:08 PM By becomming a middle man you would vastly complicate your taxes, its much easier to point the people to donate directly to the redcross.org , inturn there will be less middle men so the money will remain higher, you have to remember your merchant would take a chunck of it before your able to donate it.

Another thing to remember is that even though many would appreciate the free hosting, in reality, they would be buying hosting with a donation and thus it wouldn't feel like a true donation. For myself, I do not want a single thing in return when I donate to any organization (including the Red Cross) to help with the victims of this tragedy. I would think that if you worked on something similar to Amazon with the Red Cross, and then informed your customers, that may work.
We've given and hope that you will too.
God Bless America.
I tossed in a pint this morning, all they would take. (Am approaching another gallon milestone.) It only stings a little.
I encourage everyone who can donate blood to do so. But wait a few days until
the lines drop. I got in at 7am, a dozen in front of me. By 7:15, there were about
60 behind me. By the time I was drained, the lobby was packed & the line out the
door. It is like that nationwide.
Blood is always need, particularly around the holidays
when people don't think about it.
Hey they've just pulled more survivors out of the rubble! :)
UNIXIELHOST 09-12-2001, 03:45 PM Indeed, very sad. When IntraHost stated we need to help these needy of people, I have decide to make a pledge to help the loss of lives in World Trade Center.
myDeafCities.com, the free homepage & email hosting decide to ask all their members to help and make dontations, we had raised $250 at start. We expect to get more help. All these funds will go directly to America Red Cross!
Please you guys help them, the more we help, the better they can recieve assitance.
Thank you
JamesUS 09-12-2001, 04:37 PM I've just thrown another $10 into the PayPal pot. Hope to donate a little more next week...that's all I can manage at the moment though.
I've also added a memorial image to my web site, which is linked to a page asking for help - hopefully this will encourage some more assistance.
TechnoHosts 09-12-2001, 04:59 PM I personally feel extremely strongly on this. We have donated $3,000 to the fund
UNIXIELHOST 09-12-2001, 05:10 PM Wow, here we go. DanielP made $1,000 then now Techohosts $3,000 !!
God bless you both :)
shorty 09-12-2001, 05:25 PM we've put the following link on our home page

Bogdan 09-12-2001, 07:34 PM It would be wrong not to help our people.
I have donated some money as well.
God bless...
Ihoppoet 09-12-2001, 07:46 PM Speaking as a former rescue worker from Oklahoma I can say that this means a lot. I wasnt on hand during the okc bolming, I was only 18, I was deeply envolved with the F5 that hit here. I have however worked with many who were on hand in OKC during the bombing. And I can tell you that both times the help via money, blood, even morrol support that came to use world wide really helped. There are other things you can do If you can't afford to send money, and you dont have time to wait hours to give blood. I can tell you right now there is a need for the little stuff, that isnt so little when its not there. toilet paper, and bottled water, are at the top of the list. canned and dry foods, blankets, I know there are trucks in Oklahoma filling up with this stuff, and i'm sure there are in your states as well.
one other thing, and this is by no means me asking you to do anything dishonest, just a statement of the system, if your SS# and DL# are differant, it is possible to slip through the cracks and donate blood twice.
Thank you all

I was up on my host's website yesterday morning and saw that they were getting involved. I thought that was pretty cool. Among other things they said they will match up to 50,000 dollars, dollar for dollar, on donations made by its employees.
They also have a nice open letter to their customers on their site. I think its great to see this industry step up to the plate!
RotoHost 09-12-2001, 10:06 PM In our country's time of need, you will find many people step up and offer whatever they can to help relieve their fellow citizen's suffering. No amount is too small. Give whatever you can. It will be well used.
I stood in disbelief and watched with my own 2 eyes from across the Hudson River as the first of the "Twin Towers" fell. After that, I sped home to be with my wife and kids. Tomorrow, I'll be doing what I can to help with the rescue effort. Anything I can do will not be enough. I pray for the victims and their families.
America will stand!
Wassercrats 09-26-2001, 06:52 PM If anyone would like to help citizens of Afganistan and neighboring countries or would like to read about what's facing many of them, go to http://www.care.org. After careful research, I chose Care as the charity to give a free ad to long before all this happened. I still think they are a good choice, although I heard about a different organization helping out over there on the news. I don't remember which one.
Webdude 09-27-2001, 12:44 AM I havent donated a single dime or a single pint of blood...yet. Rather, I was asked to help coordinate a fund raiser and blood drive for the largest Walmart in Texas.
The fire department will be out in all their glory and selling the populat shirts. There will be an elephant ride for the kids, and adults. We asked several churches to also have a bake/cookoff there. The Red Cross blood drive schedule has been filled up for the day. Since this is a very rich part of Texas, it should do well. We almost had ZZTop out there...but it was too late for them to change their schedule, whom are leaving Houston Saturday morning, and the fundraiser is that afternoon.
All proceeds go to various needs of New York(firefighters, victims, etc). Walmart Corporate is matching what we raise. Anyone else want to match as well? ;)
