But non the less they are maybe a 3 blocks or so away from the disaster. And I am willing to bet there was alot of fiber running down that area. thepop 09-11-2001, 04:29 PM I think with today's events any downtime is acceptable. kaskus 09-11-2001, 04:48 PM yes i agree with that Dogma 09-11-2001, 04:59 PM Originally posted by netpop looks like their facility isnt as good as they claim. I find that comment very offensive! First, because a major nightmare has occured. And Second, just a question to ponder...how many hosts can deal w/ planes running into their servers? Seriously... cperciva 09-11-2001, 05:09 PM I don't think any facility is designed to survive terrorist attacks except perhaps the underground bunkers verisign uses. If you want your website to survive terrorist attacks, you set up servers in several different facilities -- preferably on different continents. kaskus 09-11-2001, 05:36 PM yes i agree with that. build a server in underground and hidden place. maybe buy a land in desert and dig there make a bunker for your anti-terorist server ukhost 09-11-2001, 06:56 PM Originally posted by netpop nyi.net has been down since the terrorist attacks. looks like their facility isnt as good as they claim. I think that your comments are a little inappropriate considering what has happened today and what may follow. jimb 09-11-2001, 08:03 PM give them alittle slack....they were probably made to evacuate from their building. I didnt know Verisign uses bunkers? Is that a joke, or for real? Jim cperciva 09-11-2001, 08:07 PM Verisign needs to keep their secret keys pretty secure... given that someone stealing one of them could do all sorts of damage to the world economic system. I don't know if this is true, but I have heard that the US secret services also have people involved in guarding these keys... which makes sense considering the potential of a financial terrorist attack. f5hosting.com 09-11-2001, 08:23 PM Originally posted by netpop nyi.net has been down since the terrorist attacks. looks like their facility isnt as good as they claim.  How cold and heartless are you? I mean THOUSANDS of people...not tens, not hundreds, but THOUSANDS of people lost their lives today. THOUSANDS of families will never be the same because of what these stupid, cowardly, barbaric (should I even call them - People???) a**holes did today. And here you sit and make comments like this. I KNOW people that worked in that damned WTC building and I take very much offense at your comments!  whatever! netpop 09-11-2001, 08:32 PM Originally posted by f5hosting   How cold and heartless are you? NOT AT ALL!!! Don't you think you should think of all the people who died today rather than your stupid server? Sorry, but i needed to say it  creid 09-11-2001, 08:53 PM That is a very ignorent comment. I think any downtime for any host today would be acceptable. A lot of phone service were down as well. I hope to see the US Catch the people who did this terible act.:( Honu 09-11-2001, 09:04 PM Originally posted by netpop nyi.net has been down since the terrorist attacks. looks like their facility isnt as good as they claim. sad very sad ;( either you are very young and do not understand what is going on ? or you are in need of some mental help I am hoping the first ? you will learn that there is a time to be sarcastic and funny this is not one of those times ? I know you apologized but still 2 posts and this is one of them ???? jimb 09-11-2001, 09:47 PM Lets end this post.... Chicken? BC? Matt? can we get this deleted. Jim f5hosting.com 09-11-2001, 09:57 PM Jim...I dont think it should be deleted at all....locked down, maybe, but not deleted. netpop 09-11-2001, 09:59 PM Originally posted by Honu sad very sad ;( either you are very young and do not understand what is going on ? or you are in need of some mental help I am hoping the first ? you will learn that there is a time to be sarcastic and funny this is not one of those times ? And I saw hell today. Anyway, unless the impact was directly at the servers or the buildings, he correct. A properly designed NOC should have had thier back up systems up and running in no time, if anything there might have been a delay, but that would be consistant with the fiber interupt He's also incorrect about internet service. please check http://www.matrix.net/ea/advisories/ to see how good the net held it's own PagesUSA 09-11-2001, 10:04 PM Perhaps you do not realize just how cold hearted and unfeeling you are being, but I think you do. It can not be youth, as suggested, I have an 11 year old and a 12 old. Both of which have an understanding of what has happened. I can think of no greater example of ME ME ME than displayed in this thread. I think you are likely a troll. PagesUSA 09-11-2001, 10:12 PM FYI - A quick trip to Yahoo Maps shows the travel time between Dean Witter at 2 World Trade Center to NYI.net at 20 Exchange Place to be a 3 minute trip. Think maybe a back up system might have been a moot point http://maps.yahoo.com/py/ddResults.py?Pyt=Tmap&tarname=&tardesc=&newname=&newdesc=&newHash=&newTHash=&tlt=&tln=&slt=&sln=&newFL=Use+Address+Below&newaddr=20+Exchange+Place&newcsz=New+York%2C+New+York+10005&newcountry=us&newTFL=Use+Address+Below&newtaddr=2+World+Trade+Center&newtcsz=New+York%2C+NY+10048-0002&newtcountry=us&Submit=Get+Directions Chris netpop 09-11-2001, 10:13 PM Originally posted by PagesUSA Perhaps you do not realize just how cold hearted and unfeeling you are being, but I think you do. A terrorist attack?A NOC Withstand that?I dont think so. The explosion probly took out the lines etc. there is way to many circumstances that could predict the outcome. And I agree With allen. I think this thread should be locked. Thank you. PagesUSA 09-11-2001, 10:28 PM I agree. Close the thread - please. TechnoHosts 09-11-2001, 10:29 PM Our servers were a few blocks away, and they're doing just fine. No downtime on any. Its completely sad what happened, and the lives that were lost. One of the people killed aboard flight 11 was the founder and CTO of Akamai Technologies. BC 09-11-2001, 11:19 PM A very general comment : I'm stunned at some of the insensitivities shown in some of the threads regarding this disaster. My thoughts and prayers go out to all.
