They are up for me. But non the less they are maybe a 3 blocks or so away from the disaster. And I am willing to bet there was alot of fiber running down that area.

I think with today's events any downtime is acceptable.

I don't think any facility is designed to survive terrorist attacks except perhaps the underground bunkers verisign uses. If you want your website to survive terrorist attacks, you set up servers in several different facilities -- preferably on different continents.

build a server in underground and hidden place.
maybe buy a land in desert and dig there make a bunker for your anti-terorist server

I think that your comments are a little inappropriate considering what has happened today and what may follow.

give them alittle slack....they were probably made to evacuate from their building.

Verisign needs to keep their secret keys pretty secure... given that someone stealing one of them could do all sorts of damage to the world economic system. I don't know if this is true, but I have heard that the US secret services also have people involved in guarding these keys... which makes sense considering the potential of a financial terrorist attack.

That is a very ignorent comment. I think any downtime for any host today would be acceptable. A lot of phone service were down as well. I hope to see the US Catch the people who did this terible act.:(

Humor, in it's own special way, during a time of crisis, is a great way of releaving stress. And I saw hell today.

Anyway, unless the impact was directly at the servers or the buildings, he correct. A properly designed NOC should have had thier back up systems up and running in no time, if anything there might have been a delay, but that would be consistant with the fiber interupt

FYI - A quick trip to Yahoo Maps shows the travel time between Dean Witter at 2 World Trade Center to NYI.net at 20 Exchange Place to be a 3 minute trip.

Think maybe a back up system might have been a moot point

A terrorist attack?A NOC Withstand that?I dont think so. The explosion probly took out the lines etc. there is way to many circumstances that could predict the outcome. And I agree With allen. I think this thread should be locked. Thank you.

Our servers were a few blocks away, and they're doing just fine. No downtime on any.

Its completely sad what happened, and the lives that were lost.
One of the people killed aboard flight 11 was the founder and CTO of Akamai Technologies.

A very general comment : I'm stunned at some of the insensitivities shown in some of the threads regarding this disaster. My thoughts and prayers go out to all.
