Dahlia 09-11-2001, 03:12 PM if you have a computer that runs 24/7 you could also download this program, eyeonsite (http://virdi-software.com/eyeonsite/desc.shtml)
i found it through a link on someones signature or homepage that posts here. i've had it for a couple days now, its really cool. if you need to monitor more than 2 sites it'll cost you $50 to register the full version, but otherwise its freeware. :)
Yes, I admit to being the author.
Mike the newbie 09-12-2001, 06:44 AM http://www.qwkmon.com also offers free monitoring.
David@Digisurge 09-13-2001, 01:27 AM Nice little program Dev. Any chance on porting it to Linux?
Anyone have a perl script that does something similar?

Yea but the site hasn't been updated in months and the service was sucking pretty bad back then... I would get warnings of my site being down while I was on it working on my forum!
Ended up canceling after a while because it got annoying.
JustinK 11-06-2001, 07:27 PM Serverrat was giving false stats at times, then it just completely stopped working for me. I didn't like getting messages to join their sponsor who just happened to have 100% uptime according to them. :|
AlaskanWolf 11-06-2001, 07:50 PM anyone know of a good linux based notifcation software that i can install on a dead computer here at home and if anything goes wrong, for it to email ?
what would have to be done for it to make a phone call?
netsaint (netsaint.org) i believe.
AlaskanWolf 11-06-2001, 09:22 PM thanks, i ll check that out
RackMy.com 11-06-2001, 09:26 PM http://www.internetseer.com SPAMERS!!!!!! They like to send out SPAM messages saying There appears to be a problem in reaching the following Web page from Philadelphia, Pennsylvaniawhich is TOTALLY bogus and then 2 hours later:We are please to inform you that we no longer have a problem in reaching your Web page from the Philadelphia area:What an under handed thing to do :(
I've gotten the same spams. They couldn't pick a worse time to make me angry!
purplemokey 11-07-2001, 01:30 AM Are there any sites that actually keep track of uptime for webhosts? I think it would be a much more objective metric then what the so called "top web hosts" sites are doing. Anyone interested in setting this up with me?
It would have a list of:
web hosting sites with their uptime, current status, date started monitoring
clients using a certain web host could volunteer their site for monitoring too so we get a better picture for shared vs dedicated, unix vs microsoft ...
each site would have a history of date/time and duration of downtime
each site could also have a basic ab benchmarking done
I was thinking of just using php and mysql and doing a cron every 10 minutes finding if there was any packet loss with a ping to the site. Any comments?

That is a really nice program, any chances to add an email function to it ? :)
at home I use websupervisor .. http://www.neurostock.com/websupervisor/ .. very nice too
Get-Hosted.com 11-07-2001, 02:54 AM EyeOnSite is great...
Only thing I found wrong was if my cable internet went out for a few seconds while EyeOnSite was checking. (Every minute) I would report things down, and I would go check and they would be up, because my internet wasn't down long enough for me to notice. Other then that it is great.
Gordo 11-07-2001, 11:40 AM I am using easymonitor.com and like it.
drhonk 11-07-2001, 01:34 PM There are few similar softwares that run on Linux.
1. Netsaint - www.netsaint.org
2. Big Brother - www.bb4.com
If you have colocation, hardware, or server that support snmp, you can use OpenNMS - www.opennms.org
I recommend those netsaint and bigbrother if you only want to monitor your servers and services.
btw.. all of them are free.. :)
goodness0001 11-07-2001, 03:30 PM Do these run on each server or can you run these remotely from a computer always connected to the internet to check services on multiple servers??
Anatole 11-07-2001, 03:41 PM Let me also introduce a very simple Russian host monitoring site, which is reliable, allows you to show how reliable is your host to your customers and has a mirror site in the USA.
Please visit: http://hm.msk.ru
And it is free, of course ;)
jffmrk 11-07-2001, 09:13 PM Here is a simple PHP script I found a while ago:
