Hello.

I am about to lease another server. I know efreeservers.com offer bandwidth around $1/gb. But I dont like to lock into 24 month contact. Anywhere offer similar pricing?

Also can someone tell me whats the story behind cogent? I remember seeing somewhere offering 100MB/s for $1000.

You could check weinbar.com which comes quite close to the 1$/GB if you prepurchase.

I use Weinbar, where do you see prices close to $1/GB?

Eiv - efreeservers allows you to colocate, no contract lock-in... you could always pick yourself up a $800 server and do it that way...

I use Weinbar, where do you see prices close to $1/GB?http://www.weinbar.com/redhatserv.html

25GB Transfer Block $50
50GB Transfer Block $75
100GB Transfer Block $125
500GB Transfer Block $500

I don't use Weinbar, but keep an eye on them. Correct me if I'm wrong but this page seems to be showing that you'd pay $1/GB if you prepurchase 500GB.

How much of bandwidth are you looking forward to buy ? I may be able to get you some good deals.

Eiv - shop around. There are a few threads on the forum...

I have built 1u systems with P3-800, 512MB, 40GB hard drives for $850 myself... and that was a couple months ago.

Network Engines Blazer / VALinux 1000 / IBM 4000R servers have been selling for cheap prices in the past few months and are very nice servers (go to 2GB of RAM).

Newegg.com has the Intel ISP1100 server for $600 new with free shipping. Slap in a hard drive (or two), RAM (up to 1GB), and CPU and you have a pro-quality system for under $1000. At today's prices, a P3-750 is $120 + 256MB RAM is $40 + 40GB hard drive is $100. Under $900 total.

I'm not saying it is for everyone, just consider that efreeservers doesn't require the contract (and has cheaper rates) if you go with co-location.

I contacted Weinbar about their rates being lower on the redhat dedicated than on the co-location...

The response I got was that they are going to be increasing prices October 1 to match the higher prices of the co-location rates.
