View Full Version : WebMail preferences
Hey,
I'm interested in hearing some people's personal preferences when it comes to Webmail..
We're considering adding a few more options to our mail servers, and currently use Horde and sqWebmail.
Please list why you like the webmail client, and what advantages it has.. eg: autoresponders.. forwarders, address book etc etc
Also, please list costs of the program, licensing structure etc, should you have that info
Edit
I don't want to know what you like about webmail its self... i'm wondering about webmail programs/clients
LP-Trel 11-18-2003, 03:42 AM Hmm webmail.. what do I like..
Fast, it works, easy to use, and mindless.
Thats what I like. :D
ANMMark 11-18-2003, 03:44 AM Simon,
Which control panel will this be on?
We offer NeoMail to our clients with CPanel and they seem to enjoy it. However the one downfall of NeoMail is it is no longer supported by the developers of it, and is not being developed any further. It is free however, and clients seem to like it.
However, I'm not sure if it runs only on CPanel, or if it will work on H-Sphere as well.
Great stuff Mark, i've heard some nice things about Neomail...
Also, on a seperate thing, i am contacting you, but we're having arguements now about that d@mn logo again
ANMMark 11-18-2003, 03:55 AM lol no problem at all. I generally like to assume, for our own sanity, that people have dropped off the planet rather than forgotten about us lmao.
Seriously though....I understand...no problem :)
As for the webmail issue, NeoMail, again although unsupported by the developer, is a really nice system IMO.
We also offer Horde and SquirrelMail, but NeoMail seems to be the preferred choice by our clients
reviewtechnology 11-18-2003, 04:17 AM Neomail is a great program and most of our clients use it to.
superiorhost 11-18-2003, 11:40 AM Hi IHSL,
We have Cpanel, so we get Neomail, HORDE, and SquirrelMail.
Those are the only ones I have tried, and from my experience when using email remotely, I prefer Squirrel mail 10 to 1 over the others.
It is more like your desktop email program. It is super simple to use, and set up, yet it has advanced features for the customers that want to use it as their primary mail program.
Cost... it is open source.

I hope that helps.

Charlottezweb 11-18-2003, 02:18 PM Most every client I've asked has preferred Squirrelmail over neomail. The fact that it's a work in progress and actually in development is nice too lol

Ankheg 11-18-2003, 09:32 PM I guess I'm wierd, in that I much prefer Squirrelmail and IlohaMail to, say, Horde/Imp and Neomail. Squirrelmail is popular, simple to use, easy to set up, and fast. I like IlohaMail for it's nice support of multiple languages and it's sheer simplicity. I don't work on it or anything... I just really like it. It's lacking all those whiz-bang features like calendars and so forth... but it works, its' appearance is easily alterable, and it's free. :) What more could I really ask for?
CS-Stacie 11-18-2003, 11:03 PM Well not using a "control panel" I highly recomend "Qmail" and there related programs for "webmail" sqwebmail, and there programs for "Admin" sqmailadmin. Just my preference.
Citron 11-19-2003, 03:58 PM IHSL,
I've found the Webmail applications from the following three companies to be vastly superior to the others mentioned in this thread. They each offer full-featured products with very clean interfaces.
1. @Mail (http://www.atmail.com)
2. Starfield Technologies (http://www.starfieldtech.com)
3. Critical Path (http://www.cp.net)
Can't tell you much about the costs associated with those, though.
Vortex-Steve 11-19-2003, 04:24 PM Horde is my favorite, I hate squirrelmail!
Zshen 11-19-2003, 04:26 PM I enjoy Horde as well. I gotta have my calendar. :)
tazd9t9 11-19-2003, 04:36 PM i like openwebmail, has some good features, like neomail only it seems to work faster, could be a bit prettier though :)
CrazyTech 11-19-2003, 04:54 PM I love Squirrelmail personally, but they all have their strengths and weaknesses. I think that which one you use depends upon your preference and that also there is really not set pattern.
MGCJerry 11-19-2003, 05:49 PM I really like Sqirrelmail, but I just wish it was easier to customize its appearance (colors, themes, etc).
I prefer it over all others. :)
