View Full Version : Silent Treatment from server4You

Almost two weeks ago, after a visit here to Webhosting talk, I see this big old banner for server4You (http://s4y-webserver.intergenia.de:8081/adj?ajlink=http%3a%2f%2fwww%2eserver4you%2ecom%2fus%2findex%2ehtml%3fc1%3dbanner%5fdedi%26source%3dwhtalk%26kw%3d468x60banner6&ajbid=19&Pool=WHT_TOP_BANNER&ajpage=/banman/banman.asp).

So I click on it. I email their sales staff some questions. That was two Friday's ago. Nothing.

I email them again last Thursday, at which time I also leave them a phone call (unable to get any sales person on the line). Nothing.

My hosting partner also left them phone messages. Nothing.

I dunno about you, but has anyone else received the silent treatment when trying to contact someone in their sales department? I mean, what does that say about their viability?

Frustrated in Rockville.

Oh hey, the story just gets better (not).

I just called ... waited ... got that perky female voice indicating that they're sales staff is busy and to hang on if I wanted to leave a message.

I hang on ... but the voice mail system tells me I can't leave a message because the voicemail is FULL!

I'd try using the email address they offered, but after several attempts, why try again?

Any suggestions? A friend and I don't need much. Bandwidth is an issue for a very popular BBS my bud runs. I'm going to use the rest of the server to host some church and charity sites I run.

Well, one or two other blogs I do as well. Point is, the BBS popularity is driving us into a dedicated situation (not a bad thing) ... but since we're not going into "the biz" we want to keep the cost down so our AdSense revenue pays the bills.

Suggestions?

Try making a request in the advertising forums, someone will most likely be able to meet their deals. :)

thanks, but after reading some of the recent posts on 'mangled' ... I"m not so sure. I mean, I'm willing to pay a bit more ... but I think I'd like some form of a control panel as well.

The control panel is only free at the first month, and then $19.95/month will be charged. But their price is still very cheap, even $75 a month. more reviews for this company are welcome!

They are awesome for self managed servers...Support team is not the best...they only have people available 24/7 to reboot your server as per their email but if you would like technical support it is only from 9am - 5pm. But I guess what can you expect with such a low price :)

Just curious as to why you've dismissed Managed Servers Inc. because of all of the threads about them and yet you've had personal dealings (or lack there of) with Server4You that scream poor customer service and yet you're still pursuing a server with them. If I were treated as you have been by Server4You (that is, with total indifference) I would run as fast as I could away from them. If a company won't respond to you before you make a purchase, you can only imagine how you'll be treated after they've got your money.

Well, I am a bit curious why you're so curious ;)

Kidding aside, if you read between the lines, you can see I am looking elsewhere now.

That let's keep the chronology straight. I didn't dismiss Managed in favor of server4You ...

... meaning I could be convinced otherwise about Managed, I just did a quick search here after Managed was suggested and wasn't all that convinced it was right for me.

But I've been wrong before ... do you have a positive experience with any of the aforementioned hosts ... if so, let me know.

BTW ... called again ... sent email again to server4You. About now, I'm just curious to see how long it's going to take before I get a response.

Wasn't trying to be insulting before, or anything ;)

It's just a rare company that doesn't want your business :D

Well I dont know if you would want to make that strong statement about the company that doesnt want business. Maybe they are experiencing difficulties that we dont know of...who knows? Anything is Possible in todays world.

You're right. Didn't realize when I typed it how it sounded, but it was too harsh. Apologies to Server4You for prejudging.

I feel like I can be harsher on hosts because I'm not one, but I guess that gives me less right maybe :o

Oh, I wasn't offended .. takes alot more than that.

And yes, I don't think you came on too strong with your assertion that they don't want my business.

Clearly, they don't, otherwise they would at least "bulk-respond" to the emails and/or clear the messages on their voicemail.

To me, it looks like no one is home.

BTW, check out this WHT thread regarding server4You.

It doesn't look like all the elevators are making it to the top.

Yes, a totally unbelievable chat session ... I mean I believe it happened that way ... I just can't believe any company would do that.

So any other suggestions out there for a modestly priced dedicated server where only one site out of the ten or twelve hosted on it is going to consume some serious bandwidth and disk (a very popular vBulletin forum about ... and I'm not making this up, pigs and cows and other farm thingies) ?
