Global 11-17-2003, 05:53 AM Anybody here using Domainsatcost.ca? are they good, bad or........? :)
I need to transfer a couple of .ca domains, but I don't know anything about them, the only thing I know, they do transfer .ca domains, and their prices are good. Please post your opinions, experiences.
Thanks
cleblanc 11-17-2003, 07:55 AM I have been using Domainsatcost.ca for the past few years to register/maintain all my .ca domains. I have no problem in recommending you to their service.

nameslave 11-17-2003, 09:29 AM All I can say (and still being nice) is that I have been moving all my .ca's away from Domainsatcost.ca to EasyHosting (the same company of OpenSRS/Tucows which charges just a couple of loonies more at CAN$19.95).
EDIT: ONCE AGAIN, I couldn't update even my technical contact at Domainsatcost.ca just now ... talking about automated interface!
Global 11-17-2003, 02:21 PM Thanks guys,
I think I will go with Domainsatcost, I checked out EasyHosting and I see that they are owned by Look Communication and I had some not so pleasant experience with them in the past (not domain issue) :)
Thanks again, George
nameslave 11-17-2003, 03:58 PM Another CIRA-certified registrar that I have used and would recommend is BareMetal. They come with a fully automated interface that is neatly written and works every time. The only shortcoming is that they do not have a toll free number.
Dammit. I knew I should have done a search here first before using domainsatcost.ca .
On Friday I created an account at domainsatcost.ca and registered a .ca domain. I then received the usual email from CIRA instructing me to login to their site and confirm the transaction. Well, I did not finalize the transaction because I did not like what I saw. I saw that the Administrative email contact address was one at domainsatcost.ca and not mine. Huh? No thanks.
So I logged into my domainsatcost.ca account (horribly un-user-friendly interface). But since there are no domains in my account yet, there is no place for me to modify any email address info.
OK, so I patiently waited until this morning to call them by telephone. Of course, on my nickel. I waited 15 minutes on hold before I thought that was enough to blow in long distance charges for something that was not even my fault. God knows how long I'd have to wait on hold until I got someone to pick up the line.
So I opted to send them an email to resolve the issue. We'll see how long it takes to get a reply.
Gotta tell ya, so far, I'm far from impressed.

sightz 01-05-2004, 12:35 PM I posted parts of this in a thread last month:
Domainsatcost lumps all your domains under one master account. I discovered the hard way that within these master accounts if you change the info for ONE domain, it changes it for ALL of them! I inadvertantly changed the ownership of several client domains before I figured this out!
Domainsatcost says "that's the way our system is supposed to work" and if you want to move a domain OUT of your master account you have to PAY FOR IT AGAIN! (?) Yikes.
Besides their reseller-unfriendly account system, support takes up to 30 days to answer emails. I have had sites go into suspension/registrar-hold because domainsatcost wouldn't respond.
At least they send you renewal emails well in advance, so you can move your sites away from them! :D
Wow. That sound very promising...
Well, I will give them a couple of days to respond to my email. The CIRA link is only valid for a few more days anyways, then the domain name becomes available again. The problem is that my cc has been charged for the transaction. So I will have to watch my statement to see if the transaction is reversed or not.
Geez. Once again, the saying that I try to live by proves itself once again.
I'm not rich enough to buy cheap things.

...support takes up to 30 days to answer emails.... Well, I guess I got lucky. Three days later, I got a reply. It was just under the wire before the CIRA requirement to confirm ran out.
Part of what they said:
---------------------------------------------------
The e-mail address that is showing at cira is our e-mail alias for your real address. Any e-mail sent to this alias will forward to you. This is so that your real address is not listed on the registry whois, and therefore picked up by spam bots. This alias does not stop spam, but stops your real address from being put on spam lists.
---------------------------------------------------
So I logged into CIRA and confirmed the registration. Then I logged into domainsatcost and revised my admin email.
Sheesh.
Now is this co-incidence? In the last hour I have received 2 spam emails from domainsatcost.ca. One at my admin contact email address, but another one at a totally unrelated site address.
