Technically it's the US secret service which investigates that stuff, but I think you're supposed to report it to your local authorities and let them decide if it is worth bothering the feds with.

Im no authority on this issue, but I sure has heck would think 20g's would be.

Actually Im pretty sure of it, being as the Secret Service is really going after this new type of fraud which ppl scam around 10-15k from ppl. The operation comes mostly from Nigeria if Im not mistaken, its becoming a real problem, but 20k then yes I would say it'd be totally worth it for em to investigate.

Well i have notified the owner of the address but its just that she don't have such credit card...... No money was taken but I did the right thing and told her to becareful about online purchases. The next thing is that hehe we got the frauder's ICQ and IP of paysystems. Whats the next step?

In my experience, the Secret Service couldn't care less. We have called them a few times when we had 100% definite locations of people perpetuating credit card fraud both by submitting stolen card numbers to us and once when we knew exactly where someone was located who actually was distributing a database of stolen cards. Every time we called them they just blew us off.

I've found the best thing to do is to pay careful attention to account requests, verify IP addresses against physical locations, check out suspicious phone numbers and addresses, and, if you find one you think is stolen, call information for the card holder's real phone number and call them. In the past month alone I've saved several thousand dollars in illegitimate charges and helped several people learn that their credit card number was stolen before they got their monthly bill. All it costs is a few cents in long distance charges and a few minutes of time.

I think the only time that they will care is if a situation that goes on the press or the news.

Fraud is almost always unpunished. It's terrible. CC companies won't prosecute, they just raise %s a bit to compensate for anything lost. It's us that ends up getting hurt. They thief gets what they want most of the time, with no punishment. The real CC owner gets his money back, and the sellers lose the money, the service, and the chargeback money.
