Are you really getting that error? Please tell MS . . .

Win XP or 95? If 95 then upgrade to XP.

If XP then system restore to a date earlier when your PC / IE was working.

You won't lose any data only software you installed which can be easily recovered.

I think upgrading from 95/98 to XP is a little drastic just to fix an IE problem don't you?

1. Visit the Linux vendor page of your choice.
2. Download FREE linux distribution ISO's
3. Brun ISO's to CD.
4. Insert Linux CD, press the power switch on your computer.. (Who cares is windows don't like it, you wont be needing it..)
5. Reboot.. Follow the instructions to install a Real OS.. :)
6. Problem Solved.. :D

Seriously, you're lucky.. Windows XP (Finally, after many lawsuits to allow consumer choice.) has an option to remove IE. It should work.. (or so they say)

But first of all run a virus scan there are quite a few virus' that will attack IE and prevent you from being able to use it. If you've got one of them running reinstalling wouldnt do you any good.

I had one of those nasty little buggers last year. NAV caught it but could not remove it. It wrote itself into the System32 directory and disguised itself as a system DLL. Then I had to reomove it from the registry and reboot before I could delete it.

Then IE started working again.

If all else fails:

Use Add/RemovePrograms -> Add/Remove Windows Componants. and remove IE.. Then re-install it.. (requires original XP CDROM)

Once it's re-installed visit windows update and get all the latest patches and plugs..

linux isn't the end all, be all solution to all windows problems. though you'd be hard pressed to get many to admit it.

You are right.. I know Linux is not for everyone and it certainly has it's own bugs. My coments were tounge in cheek as they say.. I actually use both platforms. Although these day's my WinBox is primarily used for apps I can't find on Linux.

I currently use both platforms.. Linux and XP. Although my Linux machine has become my primary machine. My XP box is mostly used for applications I cannot find on Linux or to overcome hardware compatibility issues.

Linux certainly has more horsepower where windows lacks it. But then again, Windows had its advantages too. One being a little more user freindly.. Allot of the stuff on Windows is point click. where as most of the stuff on Linux still requires some work under the hood.

hehe :. maybe a bit drastic for an IE problem but ~$150 it's totally worth the upgrade.

What's even smarter is buying a new PC ~$400 from Dell w/ XP.

I will give MS credit with XP; they build it from the ground up. I rem. my Win 95 days :. Since XP I've never seen the blue screen

The amount of time I save by using XP, a fast PC, and DSL is priceless.

In the system restore panel do you see a system checkpoint?

The date will be bolded if there is a checkpoint.

Quite Odd.

FYI:

From Desktop > right click 'My Computer' > and make sure it's turned on. My min. is set @ 10. Depending on your free space do so accordingly.

----

Try reinstalling IE.

Keep us updated!

Sid
