Hey.

I was just wondering what the requirements for a good web server, but with a low budget. Targeting from $600-$1000

The co-location costs are easy to me . . . so don't mind that.

I am currently in the Game Server hosting buisness, and I have no clue what the web server requirements are. I know game servers take MORE resources, but I was wondering what web server requirements exactly are.

Pitch in all of what you experience, forums, mysql databases, etc.

What takes more resources..
What takes least resources..

Should I get a dual P3 CPU with 512 KB cache?
Would it matter if I had more cache?

Can a single P4 2.4 GHz 512 KB cache, beat a dual P3 1.0 ghz 512 kb cache?

Should RAM matter? How much should I install.... ?

Rather then that, please disregard posting control panel's, I'm just looking for hardware specs.............

last q.... how much accounts/users your system hold? and what estimate do you earn per month? (if you feel saying your income is confidential, then dont post, but I'd like a estimate.)

Thanks!

I think you should go with the best hardwore in my opinion. Again, it's totally upto you how you wish to go about it. I think you should go P4 instead of dual p3. But it's up to you.

If it's a gameserver box, get the dual procs, scsi drive/s and heaps of ram.

Also keep in mind that if you are planning on leasing out game servers, you must be prepared to deal with all the little kids stealing their parents credit cards, or requesting sponsorship. Lets also not forget about the constant DDoS attacks and thousands of support tickets.

Just a little advice ;)

Ah, Like I said, I'm looking for requirements for web hosting, not game server hosting. I already have 2 P4 boxes just for game serving . . . what are req's for web servers is what I needed to know.

Wouldn't it be Dual P3's 1.2Ghz = 1024 Cache(together) 2.4 Ghz
and P4 = 2.4 Ghz= 512 Cache?

There is overhead when running multiple CPUs, you can't say the Dual P3 1.3s is exactly equal to a single P4 2.4 w/ 1mb cache.

If it's a 1.2ghz P3 with 512k cache, chances are it's a Tualtin chip. Basically that'd be the P3 Tualitin core made for a server (512k cache vs the typical 256 flavor), so the 1.2ghz P3 might perform better overall. Those Tually 512k cache CPUs were excellent performers.

it really depends on your application. I think I would go the P3 route if those are indeed 1.2ghz/512k cache parts.
