Hi

I don't know if any of you guys have noticed this but enom whois shows detagged .uk domains as available. I had a customer who registered a detagged .uk domain only for me to check and find out that this domain couldn't be registered and had to refund his money.

Has this happened to you?

Yes it does!! Just tried 5 all were recorded as Detagged and Enom showed them as available.

I have said this before and will say it again Enom's implementation of UK registrations is the pits

I am begining to agree with you, that is why I have registered a TAG and will be a member soon. Can you recommend a good software that works with Noimnet Automaton for automated domain registration?

Thanks

i heard it costs $500 to be a member, does it worth for selling .uk domains?

It actually costs £500 plus vat for the first year and then £100 plus vat every year from there on. It is worth it if you are selling a lot of domains (or losing alot of sales cause others are more competative than you are). Enom charges nearly £8 for 2years but Nominet charges £5.87 for 2years. £2.13 = $3.4 so all you need is to sell a few domains a year and you will make the fee back

Do you have to be located there to become a member?

No there is no restrictions. Acceptance of the T&C's is all that is required, be aware that breaching the T&C's can result in the tag being withdrawn.

Cost of joining is £500 +VAT with an anual fee every August of £100 +VAT

Some various misconceptions

1) Non UK members do not have to pay VAT on UK domains
A) Yes they do

2) Nominet is a ICANN approved reseller
A) Nominet is the actual Registrar

3) Domains can be registered through a web interface ala Enom
A) No they cant all instructions to Nominet is via a PGP signed email to the automoton web interfaces are just a front end to the actual system of registration.

4) It's just another domain
A No its not indeed there is a whole range of differences between UK and say .com and unless you understand these then problems arise.

5) Detagged means domain has been deleted
a) Nope means no tagholder is associated with the domain but overall it means the domain is NOT available.

6) I can be a tagholder but not a member
A) This is true but if you do that then domains will cost you £80 +VAT

7) Domains can be registered for 1 year
A) Nope 2 year only

8) The more domains I reg the cheaper it gets
A) Whether you reg 1 or 1,000,000 the price is the same for every member

9) I dont want to be a member I will use another registrar to register .co.uk names
A) Bo**ox Nominet is the only registrar of UK domains if you are dealing with anyone else you are dealing with a tagholder/member

Other points:-
Change of registrant name costs £30 +VAT
The domain can be removed from your services at will by the customer/Nominet irrespective of whether you have been paid or not.

Anyone considering becoming a member please go to the Nominet website and read what is there.

Why did i write this ? Well my pet hate is dealing with clients who have had their registrations done by someone who didn't know what they were doing and having to deal with all the crap and expense to sort them out.
