thx Heh heh... Oh boy... ok here's some sage advice for you.

1. Get yourself a Windows 95 boot disk...
http://www.putergeek.com/downloads/
has one with CD drivers set to go so get it, do as the instructs say and keep that floppy safe it has numerous uses...
(Don't worry it's just a boot disk it doesn't matter what version of Windoze you have on your machine it's just a good way to boot to DOS)

2. Now go and grab that Mobo BIOS upgrade and read the instructions... Let me repeat READ, absorb, memorise those instructions.

3. Now unzip any bios files you need as well as the bios updater utility to an accessible part of your hard drive (remember NTFS isn't accessible from DOS)

4. Ok, now before you do anything else... now is a good time to throw any pets, children or any other potential "ooh look, wonder what happens if I unplug this while that thing is updating?" entity so you can be reasonably sure of non interuption of your power supply.
This is ESSENTIAL to avoid what's known as a motherboard becoming "so much useless junk".

5. Right, paranoid enough now? :) Good. Now boot up your machine using the win95 DOS disk whilst chanting the instructions mantra (you did print them out right?)

6. Do as the instructions tell you. If you have the option to create an emergency recovery disk then do it... that extra 5 minutes of waiting could save you a week of waiting for a replacement MB (I know because it took that long for me!).

7. Pray

8. Check your instructions

9. Pray again... sacrifice a small child if you have to... Oh ok, a chicken wing then....

10... Now, update the BIOS as per instructions...

11. Wait for the all clear from your machine

12. Reboot your machine as per instructions and that's it...

Yeah, I know sounds overly paranoid but I'm 100% certain that there are those out there who like me sat there and looked at their screen in disbelief as the BIOS died mid update because of a rat chewing through the power cable, a digger biting through the local supply cable or as was my case, their GF unplugs their computer power cable to use the hair dryer....

It's happened twice to me now so I get very tense when a BIOS update it called for nowadays...

In case you're wondering... I dumped her not long afterwards!

Enjoy :D :D :D
