How much giga bandwidth do i need to handle 2000 users on a BBS?
Is 65 giga ok for about 500 page hits a day or about 100 users on the same site?

The graphics on the site are going to come into play here. Take an average forum page (yours), save it and see what the size is of everything and you'll be able to work up a decent guess.

Unless your BBS is huge on graphics 65 gig is going to be easily enough for those figures. With the deals out these days it's easy to assume you need a ton of transfer, but the reality is you have to work pretty hard to chew through 65gig with an optimized site. Graphically you're just going to heave a header, and maybe a footer. All the content is text and tables. I don't think WHT is even up to that amount yet.

65 gigs is more than enough to handle 500 page views a day, or even 5,000. I've been running a growing forum for 2 years.

my question to you is... what host are you considering that offers 65 gigs bandwidth? You should be more concerned with server specs, the service, price, etc. hook me up with some details and I can give you some idea on if it's a good deal or not.

Well now we know where you are getting that deal from :) Cobalts are fine boxes. If you are going to do any type of dynamic web page generation with a database backend I would definitely suggest that you bump the RAM up to at least 128. That is really your ownly bottleneck at this point. If you site is going to be busy that is.

Rik is being generous and really meant to throw 256 - 512 in there if you have the option for a cheap one-time upgrade. One thing about forums is that the site is generally hit hard. Quick page clicks over and over, and the more ram you have the better (for forum sites).
