View Full Version : Thoughts on dedicated servers in Indianapolis IN

I am looking into getting some space in a datacenter here in indianapolis. Basically It would be for my webservers and voice servers but I would also like to host a few dedicated servers to start with, and then move up from there. Do you think that Indianapolis would be a decent place to host these servers. Most dedicated server companies seem to be in other large cities, but there is really nothing around here.

Thoughts on weather or not this would be worth it would be great.

Very very expensive for quality bandwidth - We checked out places in IN and the surrounding areas in central US - very overpriced.

I dont really have a recommendation because they were all so absurdly priced - and thats with a 100mbps commit and 2 racks, so imagine with a lower commit

We are in Indianapolis as well, and as of yet, it is much more cost effective to colocate just about anywhere else in the country.

Real estate here is CHEAP. Taxes would be relatively cheap. Good help would be cheap. Bandwidth here /= cheap.

If it weren't for the bandwidth prices, this area would be a perfect place to even host your own datacenter.

Well, I could probably cover 100mbps commitment. But ive been talking to alot of people trying to find a place down here with pipes already running and if there is somthing here that is hosting people its pretty well hidden.

I could cover 100mbps as well - but is it worth it? No.

There is something nice in St. Louis though, not that far from IN either.

yea i think alot of carriers go throught st louis, but looking at network maps alot come through indy, what makes the price so much higher here than other areas?

Most likely its reflecting what others are charging.

Why charge less, when you can charge more and get away with it, eh?

Check these guys out.

They are only game in town located up on the Northside of Indy on Meridian Street. There close by to the old Coseco facilities.
I used these guys several times for Burstable T-1. There prices were the best around!! These are the guys in town all of the ISPs (IQuest) go through.

Keep this one under your hat, but the last time I talked to anyone up there was a couple of years ago. At that time they were the backend for Monster.com. They were building a new data center at the time and from the info on their website looks like it is up and running.

Anyway, here is the contact info I had at the time.

Ask to speak with:

Dwight Wheeler
One Call Commmunications, Inc.
801 Congressional Blvd.
Carmel, IN 46032
(317) 843-1300

If he can't make a good deal with you, nobody in Indy will be able to.

Tell him Mark from Salin sent you.

Good Luck!

One Call on the northside and Time Warner has a place close to downtown. Only two I know of.
