No personal experience, though I do have a couple concerns...

Their hosting plans are bottom dollar. I honestly have to wonder how they're turning a profit.

They're a releatively new host, having been in business for less than 6 months, though the domain IS registered for three years (that's a plus). They have 59 web sites on their server as of this posting, backboned by ThePlanet.com.

Have you sent a test email to test their support response times? Have you done a search here on WHT?

Ouch,
I have to agree with Prism329, those prices are basement bargen and then some. I wouldn't look for them to be around next year without a major price increase.

Just my 2 Cents.

Excellent Information Prism329!

Checking the length of time their domain has been registered, number of websites, and the servers they are using seem like excellent ways to check the credibility of a host. Unless it's a trade secret, can you tell me how you found the number of sites they host and the server?

It's no trade secret, the only thing about this is that it doesn't ALWAYS work. I've come across this site SEVERAL times on the forums, and just tested it out today. Boy, was I surprised!

I use them for one Windows account I needed

Been with them for a few weeks now, seem good. No down-time as yet. Good support :)

They also post here on WHT, no negatives, and up until this thread, no positives. hostlab's comments are the first positive ones (Thanks, hostlab!).

A quick check shows that their servers are housed with The Planet, and their domain was registered Jun 29, 2003. So they are fairly new.

Also, I can't help but wonder why they would use a name that is of the popular soap, http://www.zest.com/faq.html , even though zest is a word. When I saw Zest in the ZestHost name I instantly thought of that soap.

Regards,
Mark

Just want to clear a few things up :)

Thanks for the positive comments hostlab

http://zesthost.com and http://forums.zesthost.com and our email are not hosted on our servers, they are hosted on a shared account with another company so if there are problems with our servers people can still get support etc.

We are currently hosting just over 250 domains.

I am considering using Zesthost.com soon, and was wondering if I have to set up my own domain name, or if the company does it for me?

Thanks

I will do. So far, everything has been excellent. Can't fault the support department, every email I have sent has been replied to and dealt with within 24hrs.

Hello,

I haven't used Zesthost as a host, but I do work with Peter on a regular basis. I can say from my experience with him he is honest, hard working and always doing trouble tickets (even at 1am last night- AND sorting me a colo deal out at the same time :D)- always a good sign.

If you have any doubts regarding prices then I don't think you have a great deal to lose at that price- and from the feedback I've seen so far, Peter is doing a thoroughly excellent job.

Hi, I've been with ZestHost for a few months now. I have a Windows Reseller Account with them. I've only had a few problems:
1) When I use FTP to upload updates to sites - I somethimes connect to a different account & I can gain access to the HDD (above wwwroot).
2) I have just looked at web1.zesthost.com - It says they've been hacked. Not sure what to do now!

Cheers

I signed up with Zesthost Windows Hosting a Week Ago. I had several initial setup questions which were promptly responded to.

Overall Zesthost appears to be an excellent hosting company. No problems or complaints except for some nagging security concerns.

I requested information 7 days ago through the trouble ticket system about how to password protect a website directory/folder. Still no response.

Another Security concern is that I have easy FTP access to the HDD Root Directory ( above wwwroot ). I know that the Unix Side of Zesthost was recently hacked so why on Earth can I still gain access to the HDD Root directory above everyone else's account/domains with Windows Hosting.

I pride myself on being objective and perhaps there is a way to password protect a website or directory within Helm Comtrol Panel but I cannot find it. This feature is available in other brands of Control Panels. Why not Helm ?

More information on the machine which was hacked and what we have done about it can be found at http://www.zesthost.com/web1.html

Hope this helps.
