hey guys,

right, one of my pc's is playing up, zone-alarm has been crashing for a while so i thought hey better run an a scan, found W32.Bacterra.Worm which i havent a clue how i got as it's designed to be spread around the edonkey network (havent a clue what that is), well i removed it and continued scanning, crashed, and now every single time and every single antivirus program i try it crashes. Now my sis has rung up to say she had 60 emails blocked at her server sent from one of my addresses! she hasn't been able to get at them to scan them unfortunately.
The only weird thing i remember is when rumaging around looking for a file a opened one up, seemed to be some dos program and then i got an alert "reinsall microsoft visual basic"?

Anyone any ideas?

cheers

a really not wanting to reinstall Os Aqi32

Have you tried using this http://security.symantec.com/default.asp?productid=ssr&langid=ie&venid=sym to scan your computer.

Heres some info on that virus
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.bacterra.worm.html

That dos program you opened was probably the virus
"The worm is written in the Visual Basic programming language."

ok, i've managed to scan the restore folder, but it won't delete the infected files it's found in there, and when i go to C folder the restore folder isn't there?
How do i get to it to delete the files manually or will turing of system restore delete the restore folder? win Me

If you turn off system restore, you should be able to them scan in the restore folder and the virus should be able to be removed then.

alas that didn't work, well it did remove the 2 virus it found in the restore program but the AV still crashes!
looks like fresh install of the OS is on the cards :(
