I'm just curious, but what is everyone using for a secure server for their server?? RedHat has Stronghold, but is $995.00. Anything out there cheaper??

(OpenSSL and ModSSL are illegal in the U.S...so please don't mention those. I would like something legal. :P)

Umm...
Last time I checked OpenSSL was open source, so perfectly legal in the US......

That page was also from 24 September 1998. I can assure that it is legal in the US. If not, a ton of hosting companies are in trouble since almost all cpanel/whm boxes run modssl.

It's legal, because in September of 2000, RSA's patents on the crypto used in SSL, expired.

So, both openSSL and modSSL are legal?

OpenSSL, http://www.openssl.org/ is an open source SSL library.

modssl, http://www.modssl.org/ is an Apache module which provides SSL server functionality.

SSL = secure socket layer

In short it's a way to nail down your box so that information is encrytpted and less open to people sniffing it out and using it for their own evil ends.

here's a good article on installing mod_ssl / openssl / apache ... there is a note for an adjustment that you need to make if you are a US citizen ... you might want to make note of this ...
