MattG 09-08-2001, 04:07 PM Burstable or capped?
What type of support with these plans? Please advise
Justice 09-08-2001, 05:29 PM along with MattG's question, can you also answer mine...
would the Cobalt RAQ 4I or Netra X1 be suitable for hosting a large (1-2 million impressions per month) vBulletin with a few thousand members?
And is there a good control panel for carrying out various webmaster tasks?
Vortech 09-08-2001, 06:00 PM MattG,
We offer ether or and we like to leave this up to our customers.
You can tell us hey i want 40 Gigs and that's it witch would be 128k i think. I am not sure what 50 gigs comes out to i don't do the bandwidth settings. You can also ask us to leave it wide open and go with it as you please and move up in bandwidth plans as needed..
Justice,
On this if its only one big site i would say go with the Netra X1 much faster but no control panel like Cobalts. We can install WebMin with no problem for you witch would make it easy to setup stuff..
Let me know if this helps guys...
Justice 09-08-2001, 06:11 PM thanks for the quick reply...
how are you able to offer 100% uptime? what happens in the event of site outage?
also, do you have any vBulletin sites hosted on one of your Netra packages? If so, could you please list a couple (here or in PM). I'd like to see an example of the speed...
Vortech 09-08-2001, 06:34 PM To tell the truth i am not sure there is any...
I really don't go look for them on out network unless i see them :), http://www.vanhalenlive.net/forums/ is one but its on freebsd i have not seen any vBulletins on the suns that i know of.. But they should run it fine.. A 400 Sun is about the same as a 700 Mhz PIII so there should be no problems..
http://www.vanhalenlive.net/forums/ is only on a amd 800 Mhz so they will run about the same speed really...
Justice 09-08-2001, 08:44 PM that forum is relatively tiny. if i need more ram (256 for example), how much would that cost me?
and can you answer my question about the uptime guarantee?
thanks
You would get a faster response by emailing sales@vortechhosting.com
Vortech 09-09-2001, 01:46 AM teck: Yea some times sales is faster but i dont mind i am here a lot my self.. hehe
Justice: Yea that borad is small.. Just wanted to show you.. I just really don't have anything big on a Netra that i know about yet we just started doing Netras about 2 months ago.. I know for sure it will be more then fine.. What type server is the site on now and what is the site if you don't mind me asking.
As for the ram would only be about $80 bucks really depends on cost and if we just have what it needs in stock..
p.s if i messed any of this up i have been drinking and at the club to night sorry.. ;)

the forum: Circuit Board (http://www.soundcircuit.com/cb/)
The current server info isn't really relavant, because I'm about to switch from UBB to vBulletin. From what I've heard, they use totally different amounts of resources. You can see that I'm dealing with a reasonable amount of members and traffic though. I'm still trying to do more research on the best server specs needed to run a vBulletin efficiently.

vBulletin is server-intensive in different ways, it will run very happily with a few users online on free webspace, but if you start to get more than 10 users online you will need to think about getting a more serious hosting solution, while 30 users online at the same time will probably be the time to start thinking about a dedicated server. - It's difficult to say how intensive it is when compared to UBB - UBB is intensive on the server's disk system, vB is intensive on the CPU and memory.
Vortech 09-09-2001, 02:30 PM Justice:
Well i think you would be more then fine on the netra X1. Just as NORRITT said it is more CPU and Ram being used by VB, the cpu you should never have problems with on this system as the UltraSPARC is very fast. The ram as you know we can just slap in when you need more not a big problem.. The hard drive is ATA100 and as VB is not as big on HD as UBB there should be no problems there ether.. :)
Also i think i missed the up time guarantee question you had... We guarantee up time by out to the Internet this would not of course be able to cover if you crash you box.. Our SLA gear checks every 30 sec to over 15 point around the Internet off our network. If more then 1/2 of these go out at any time you account be credited. But you must let us know as well that it was down.. I can send you a copy of the SLA if you would like. Just send me you e-mail..
Let me know if this is of any more help...
Vortech 09-09-2001, 09:21 PM Also we have a few single CPU servers as well.. I for got to add these to the list above..
