Anyone had experiences with citadelhost.com? Their reseller prices seem very good and I am wondering if anyone has or currently does business with them. Let me know, I'd appricate it.

Thanks

Try a search on this forum. Should turn up the type of results you're looking for. The search is your friend. :)

i almost pick them, was like within reach of the paypal button to buy but noticed many people posted that while the service was great and prices were too, Jon at Citadelhost was having alot of problems with downtime.. this was just like a week or 2 ago and alot of people were posting about it..

Not to bash JonL, I know people have alot of downtime, but many people were saying they couldnt reach the host because hes site was hosting on his own servers... I needed a hosting I could contact in case of this, and one that people didnt post some much downtime about.. besides that I almost bought in though

I am sure Jon can post about what happened here, but id recommend a search if I were you

Well in his defence, the problems were with the Datacenter and not so much Citadel Host, although I do admit probably a better method in the future would be advantageous. I am sure that Jon is already way ahead of me though. ;)

I'll second that, I'm getting moved to the new server later this week. :)

As eliquid mentioned, citadelhost had some SERIOUS downtime last month. Jon posted a message to the forum saying that the downtime was caused by a bad hard drive on the server at Rackshack. He says it's all fixed now.

true, but the fact that many people say John didnt notify anyone for hours and wasnt able to be reached at all tells me he didnt have a good plan in place to begin with.
I am sure its fixed now, but id rather not experince the growing pains of someone learning the ropes so to speak.

I am sure JonL has gotton things up to speed now, but that worries me why he had a plan like that inplace to begin with.

Citadelhost are a great host. These problems are most likely a one-off and could happen to any host.

Whats more is that now that the hardware has been fixed/replaced, I think it would be the best time to get the hosting, seeing as the hardware is pretty much fresh.

Oh well, it'll be your loss if you go elsewhere.

Per my post in the other thread. I went with them based on comments here and thoughts that others might do the same, which may be a mistake from my experiences at least.

CitadelHost:

Signed up with them last Friday. Monday tried transferring files over but the servers were in effect down due to DDosed attacks on the routers or something for several hours. Finally able to get things transferred over on Tuesday. Thursday morning the servers were down again from at least 0600 until 1200 or so EST. Didn't get a response to my urgent tickets until around 1000-1100. I guess they are on PST and were still sleeping. When it has been up it has been very slow, much slower than Powweb for crying out loud. It is down again right now and so goes my one week experience with Citadel Host.

Looking into Hybrid Network at the moment.

Hybrid seems good.. i have a strong feeling with going with them

I was going to go with them but still haven't heard back regarding some questions I asked a couple of hours ago. I sent one to pre-sales and one to tech support.

I bought their smallest reseller hosting package in the beggining of November, and cancelled it last night.

Why? Because customers (note the 's', it means more then one) were reporting that they were unable to access the website at all. It would give them a "Cannot find server", or "Page cannot be displayed" error.

I didn't think it was a big deal at first, i shrugged at the first person that noticed the problem. But then more, and more people said they couldn't access the site. Nothing is wrong with the domain, and some people can access the website fine. It was really weird!

CitadelHost (CH) is ok at support, they respond in a timely manner, but they're not very...consice I guess. They're emails are almost always less then 10 words.

Another reason for NOT going with CH; their data center. Their data center is BurstNET, in Scranton, PA, and is probably THE worst data center in the states. The data center has problems almost every day, take a look at this (http://forums.burst.net/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=8). I'm starting to look for a better reseller host in a data center other then BurstNET.

Maybe its only me, maybe i was put on a bad server (Quad [4] Xeon 2.0 GHz), but I still was affected by their hosting.

ALSO: What is Hybrid?

They're actually in EV1 yet are a burst reseller.

And it isn't a Quad Xeon. That would cost a fortune. It's a Dual Xeon with Hyperthreading, and the Hyperthreading makes a processor act as if there were two.

I was kind of thinking the same thing, but thought it could be quad since the speed ratings were 2.0GHz. I believe that is the limit for a quad system at the moment. Dual makes much more sense and a quad would be overkill for a web server unless it is a major database server. The cost would be prohibitive for someone like Citadel.

Hmm....My mistake, I apologize. It said Dual Xeons, you guys are right. It has four processors though; as stated in WHM and cPanel.

Yep, two logical and two physical.

I had the same problem. This morning it said "page cannot be found", did a refresh and then it would come up. Would click on a link and it would do it again. Within a couple of hours the domains were down completely, along with e-mail. I have had many complaints/concerns from members of my site regarding these problems.

FWIW, I have several sites at Citadelhost, and everything has been fine since Nov. 1. Not so much as a hiccup.

I already have websites at Citadel and also setup up a monitoring via siteuptime.com and since Nov. 1, no hiccups or anything...

Maybe I just got put on a bad server or something, I don't really now. It has been horrendous though. At least 12 hours of downtime in five days on three or more separate occasions. The pages would load slower, the e-mail would get slower, then things would just stop. Send tickets in and wait hours for responses.

And as already said, the responses to my concerns were simply one-liners. Not apologies, not the cause of the problem stated, not what is being done to make sure ti doesn't happen again, nothing like that. I don't know if J.L. runs the whole operation by himself and maybe that would explain some of it. Only one person can do so much and does have to sleep. I just want something more in a host. If there is a problem I would like to know it is being worked on any time of the day.

Just wanted to post an update on my situation with Citadel Host. I only had the account for a week and wasn't satisfied. I think I just had bad luck with a server that had a bad week or something. I expressed my concerns to Jon and asked for a refund since I was only a customer for a week and he complied.

While I chose not to stay with them, I give kudos to Jon for his understanding of my situation, his professionalism and the courtesy given to someone that was leaving. As is evident from other posts, some hosts charge you for the remaining part of the month and/or wont' give a refund...especially to someone that states he/she is leaving. Again, thank you Jon. I hope all of the issues get worked out and wish you the best as well as everyone that has an account with Citadel Host.

I joined just when the troubles hit, but they are quick to respond, gave a prorated refund without me asking for it, and have been reliable since.

Anyone and evertyone can have probles providing a service, its how they deal with it. I did recieve an email from JonL informing me of the problem, and he has responeded in a timely manner to all my n00b queries.

So I guess you could say I am a happy customer. Seriously thhough, to a degree you get what you pay for. Smaller businesses (like my own shop) cannot compete on an even footing with the big boys, so we find a way to innovate, be it customer service or price.

Just dont ask for something for nothing, it doesnt work that way.
