I have a compaq laptop it's about a month old is it possible to hook up cable internet to it? If so what do i need, i think you have to buy and install a card first.

It has a place on the right hand side for some kind of card to slide in i have no idea what it's for i think it can be used for wireless internet on the left side there is the DVD drive and floppy and usb ports on the back.

I just hope i can buy some kind of card that just slides in the right hand side so i can hook up cable internet.......what do you guys think?

You usually use ethernet to connect to a cable modem. If your laptop doesn't have built-in ethernet you can buy a pcmcia ethernet card for it. Any decent computer store should be able to help you.

Most likely that's exactly what you're looking for: it's the PCMCIA slot. All you have to do is get the ethernet card and plug it in -- driver software should be included when you buy the card.

yes, you can, my friend did that to his old p1 laptop

when you call for the installation, tell them it's for a laptop and they'll send the right stuff for the labtop

Just a few examples in case you are confused. I'd shop around for the best price on the particular card you are looking to get...

My old laptop used to have a Xircom PCMCIA modem. They offer great little combo modems, that come in a very stylish red. Mine had cable, as well as 56k, could dial into services across most of the known world (Global Access), and it never skipped a beat. The also have a surge protector built in, and automatically shut off if you accidently plus it into a digital line. They also don't have those annoying dongles that snap off in a heartbeat that a lot of cerditcard modems have... I highly recommend them
