Has any one else went that long or longer on windows 2000 web server with more then 50 sites on it???

Yes i know this is not much as our *nix servers run months but for windows its kind of good. I guess i set this one up right.. hehe

mahinder: LOL... I don't like beer to much unless i am all ready drunk from some thing else..hehe But heres to you

For Honu,

Its a 833 MHz PIII with 512mb of ram, 40 GIG ATA100 7200 IBM Drive, Asus Mother board in a 1 U case with about 68 sites on it all the sites are runing running ASP or PHP as well.. HEHE

Our main windows 2000 servers make it about 5 to 10 days but they have a lot more sites to... Testing our WinXP it looks even better since i installed XP here at home last week still have not had to reboot and i have been pushing it and testing the heck out of it.. I think win XP will be even better.. ;)

BTW... Does any one know any info on the Server ver. of Win XP are they planing to call it Windows XP Server and Adv. server. I have not seen much on this. I am just using Pro here has IIS 5.1 made in but you can't host sites on it as it only does one site like windows 2000 Pro.. :(

i have heared all next windows versions will be NT based. i mean there will be no desktop operating system relese for next windows versions like windows millenum edition. is it true ?

You are right as far as i know it will be WInXP only Home and Pro then there server ver. but not sure what its called yet.. All based off windows 2000...

I must say its fast as hell... Boots in under 30sec on my Dual 933 Mhz home computer ( BTW is in a 2 U case..LOL) and 768mb of ram runs sweet..

Most of the time its just IIS making problems for us any way.. But MS has a call little tool to restart IIS now if it uses to much mem and it just keeps going..

Really i don't have to reboot them at all the way we have them setup.. But i do any way i just don't like getting up at 3 am..LOL

More or less if the box is setup right it may only slow down for 5 min then it will be fine.. We have some colos that are right behind the one i posted that i setup for them.
I am trying to get a little flet of win2000 server to run over 60 to 90 days.. Not sure i can do it or not..LOL This would be easy for my unix guys but for me its harder and i am trying to prove to the unix guys here ( Vortech not WHT hehe ) that windows can be stable if setup 100% right.. But its been hard to get to 60 days.. Seems to be taking for ever..LOL

Yea 60 Days before a reboot not a reformat.. hehe

My personal win2K server ran for 4 months straight without qualm :)

It ran exchange, 20 + website and a dc !

It only requires reboot when I want to swap the HD.

Spec is low:
Celery 566, 386 RAM, 120 GB IDE Disk

I guess if you set it up right, win2k can be stable too :)

Yah, MS finally discovered that stable operating systems are something people actually want  From what I hear they've used no small amount of BeOS code in their new operating system to replace that hack code they keep piling on top of more hack code.

From servers of desktop they're finally producing the sort of system they should have years ago.

Having said that, I'm still far more comfortable under RedHat and KDE knowing if something goes pearshaped it'll die gracefully and leave everything else running like a dream. If Macromedia and Adobe had Linux ports I'd happily put a match to MS as a 'business' app and just leave it as a desktop version of an X-Box, playing video games.

Yea it would be very nice to get Macromedia and Adobe on linux the there would be no need for windows.. Maybe one day... hehe

I have a dedicated Windows 2000 server with ECUI, unfortunately as I can only afford to lease the one box it's running everything.... IIS, iMail, SQL Server 2000...

Memory usage hovers between 250MB and 310MB (when there are about 70 concurrent IIS anonymous users), the box has 512MB, and everything runs fine.

It's running 12 ASP sites although two of them are very busy, typically 40 concurrent users on one of them and the code is very database-heavy (time for a redesign!)

It's been running for 21 days now since I installed a patch and had to reboot, before that it was running for about 40 days and was still stable. I have never *had* to reboot the machine (due to crash, slow running, etc), ever.

I don't have any experience of running my own NT box although I worked with it regularly - I don't see any reason to regard Windows 2000 as a less stable platform than any other.

I've been with ECUI for a couple of months now.

Service is excellent, the initial dedicated server config is almost perfect, just a little tweaking to do, and support questions get a quick reply.

They have been having one or two problems with their provider, SprintLink, which resulted in a couple of outages of several hours.

However, they gave an entire month's lease free of charge for this, which I thought more than generous, and have been informative in their emails on the subject. I believe they are looking at getting a new provider.

Having said that, we're only talking about a couple of outages (although quite long) in a couple of months and it's been fine for the last month or so - maybe all under control now.

I'd recommend them highly.
