View Full Version : Stress And Sleep
XTStrike 09-07-2001, 08:35 AM Hi, Its not web hosting related, more doctor and medicine related, but here is my story.
Im sotting here working, and cant help but fel my eyelids twitching, its uncontrollable, it only started recently.
So I looked on the web and found its most probably stress or sleep related. Now, my job isnt stressful and i get plenty of sleep, I stay away from the computer more than ever now after work.
So, since ive ruled out the two things al web site says it is related to then what else could it be? Could it be a stress I dont know im dealing with, somehow transparant to me but that is happening.
What im trying to figure out is, could this be something common or is it rare? has anyone else experienced it and not felt stressed or tired? and does anyoine know a resolution to the problem? maybe a vacation or something?
I just dont understand it, even as i type this message my eyelids are twitching, make it stop...
Cheers
Tim Greer 09-07-2001, 08:53 AM I wouldn't worry about it. it's an uneasy and very uncomfortable, as well as annoying thing to happen, but it'll go away. I've had this happen, as far as I can recall for about 2 days straight. My wife has had it happen to her for a day or two, almost straight too. She doesn't get online or anything like I do, so it's not the monitor. She does read a lot, but I don't believe she was at the time it happened to her.
I don't know of any causes or cures for it, other than the muscle or nerve(s) just needs to relax. Just try and rest your eyes, lay down and listen to some music with some headphones, rest a light, damp and cool cloth over your eyes and try not to think about it. It'll pass. Of course, if it doesn't see a real doctor and don't trust any sources you find on the Internet of all places -- let alone what I say. :-) Nonetheless, good luck.
Craig 09-07-2001, 08:53 AM this maybe a shot in the dark but what sort of moniter do you have?
I used to have that problem on my old moniter which had a very bad refresh rate, once upgrading it sorta stoped.
How long do you spend at the computer?
do you suffer from bad heads?
What sort of job do you do?
maybe get yourself to the doctor and/or the eye doctor.

akashik 09-07-2001, 09:06 AM I might be stress. In this day and age it can come from a hundred different sources. Staying up late and working long hours is the obvious one, but with everything rushing forward at a hundred miles an hour all around you, combined with not having enough hours in a day can lead to all sorts of modern health issues.
Conversely it might be nothing more than a pinched nerve. Have you hit your eye area on anything lately? Slept on it funny?
Maybe even a worm of some sort. There was a story of a girl a few years ago that got some form on intestinal worm larvae in her eye from playing with her pet. It got behind her eye and grew around her optic nerve. The end of that story was, they couldn't remove it, because it would kill her if they did so. She would also die if the worm itself ever moved the wrong way.
:D
Let's hope it's just a bit of stress in your case...

I don't think many people will be able to sleep after this tale, Greg.
Justin S 09-07-2001, 11:07 AM It's probably a calcium deficiency. I've had the eyelid twiching happen to me before and that's what the doctor said the problem was. Eat some foods with calcium, or, better yet, go and get some calcium tablets from a vitamin store.

You need one nice sex.
JustinK 09-07-2001, 03:11 PM Ahhh the eyelid twitch. :) Well you know you're not alone in this. ;)
I'd say rest your eyes from the digital world for a bit. Lay down with a wet warm papertowel over your eyes. Don't try and visual anything, instead keep your mind focused on darkness. You are relaxed you are free... you are not following my instructions because you're reading this! HAH! I caught you! Sorry, I'm in an abnoxious mood at the moment. Anyway... go with the dark thing after a good meal of course.
XTStrike 09-07-2001, 04:15 PM Hi, im back, just got back from work and other tasks.
Thanx for all your comments, looks like im not really alone on this one.
I think the relaxation will be the best thing, but have you ever tried pulling someone like me away from computers? it takes alot of "computer time" to moderate people so the good users dont see the crap that a few users like to post here, then there is General Motors Corp, then there is web hosting computers, server config, then pirate radio station.
argh... these things control my life. I want a simple life
I can see where you are all comming from though, I was maybe thinking it was from excessive PC use, but I was also thinking maybe some sort of irritant and got into my eye, could that be it?
Its only been 3 days now but its driving me crazy.
(being at the PC to do this defeats the object of rest :-( )
Aloha
my eyes twitch so bad it ruins my typing ;)
heheheh good excuse
I think we have all had it from those long hours at a puter
I like the worm one hehehehe I hear worms like calcium and the warm towel helps em move around and grow.
hehehehee
I know as others have said
monitors buy the best monitor use a good card that gets good refresh rates.
take a eye break from your puter at least 4 times a day even if for 15 minutes
don't put things like needles or household cleaners in your eyes either (unless ome one tells you to ;)
I used to get this a lot go look in the mirror are your eyes red ???
if so go get a beer a couch and rest ;)
or put the lime in the coconut call the doctor .......
hope your eye gets better there or we will have to start calling ya twitchy ;)
If you sit to much next to the computer your eyes twitch so much that they are tired of twitching so they stops.
XTStrike 09-07-2001, 06:51 PM I think Ill opt for the beer couch (I already got one) :D
Ive updated my "Title" as appropriate, at least you will know when it eventaully stops :-)
shall i report all my ailments in my title in future ?? hehe
well this is the last post for the night, I dont think its the monitor since its an OK 19"
Beer Calls...
g'nite

You were working on one of your sites when you wrote that weren't you :D Without trying to lower the conversation too much klisis does have a point. A good roll in the hay does tend to relieve stress pretty well.
