View Full Version : Isn't it ironic, don't ya think.....
Jordan 09-20-2000, 04:29 PM Apologys to anyone I offended, I just meant to say that no provider is perfect (not to say that VDI hasn't had its share of problems). Also to consider that Alabanza's NOC is just below Qwest, must have been a big problem to keep them down for that long.
Anyways..no offence intended:)
Have a nice day everyone.

DynastyHost 09-20-2000, 04:30 PM I still think Alabanza is the best out there.. regardless... so :)
MikeA 09-20-2000, 05:00 PM I don't know that I would go so far as to say they are the best, but they are one of the best. I don't think that one is the best. I think that there are about 4 of them that make up the best. Alabanza, Dialtone, Rackspace and VDI.
BUT, I never had any problems getting to my Alabanza server, I think it's just in your minds <grin> :D
Brendan at HostRocket 09-20-2000, 05:25 PM Hi,
Was it really down that much last night? I was on the server most of the night, and I noticed maybe an hour at most. Earlier today mine was down for maybe 10 minutes.

I have netwhistle checking five different services at Alabanza, and it detected a failure on just one of them last night.
Someone posted email from Alabanza elsewhere that stated that they'd had a router problem causing some packet loss. So that would explain, I suppose, why some people noticed it and some did not.
scwood 09-20-2000, 06:19 PM It was about 3 hours for me last night, but only about 10 minutes today. The point is that this is an exception to the rule, not a recurring problem. Although I would never claim that Alabanza has THE best connection, it is definitely one of the most reliable, fast connections available.
By sending an emergency support request last night (through an off-network email) when it was down, this is the response I received (within an hour, I might add):
"We are currently experiencing a problem with a router. There is also a problem with one of our backbone provider's circuits. Our NOC technicians are working very hard to restore service as soon as possible. They are working on this as we speak and are in contact with the technicians at GTE."

That you can point to a singular failure at Alabanza after suffering through multiple problems at VDI and try to spread FUD among hosts who might use Alabanza?
It certainly isn't "ironic" in any sense of the word.
Chicken 09-20-2000, 07:51 PM -What Annette said. Sorry, Jordan, but I think your post was b.s. VDI was very good, then went through a period that can only be descirbed as pathetic. Now they are back on track again, but should the network go down again once or twice, I wouldn't expect all the Alabanza hosts to come here and post something like that. At least *try* to be professional.
cbaker17 09-20-2000, 07:59 PM Yea i havent heard any horror story's about their connections so they must be doing all right! Anyone know what type of uptime they guerentee and what their refund policys are if it exceeds that? Just curious
DanielP 09-20-2000, 08:52 PM Uptime guarountee is 99.5% , not sure regarding refunds, in the past almost 4 months we've seen about 99.9% uptime, outside of the 30mins for a router reconfig so I haven't had to worry about any refund policy :).
To me, Jordan looks like he's very jeleous of us who use Alabanza. He must have had to wait an awful long time to find any incidents, and such a small incident too. Most servers weren't even affected.
Was it worth the long wait Jordan?
DanielP 09-20-2000, 09:13 PM <-- does not have the same views or opinions as Jordan
*sigh*
He's good @ what he does but sometimes he opens his mouth a bit too wide.
CFoxHost 09-20-2000, 10:13 PM I guess imperfect people cannot make perfect networks, machines, or world. Is there anyone here who is perfect so that they can offer a perfect network?
Not that I was happy to be down, but hey, give them a break! (as long as this does not become a habit ;))
DynastyHost 09-20-2000, 10:15 PM I agree..
Be kind to each other :).. so customers can give us (web hosters) a break too :)
Let's love one another :)
Bogdan 09-20-2000, 10:19 PM Our server was down for about 2-3 hours last night.
And that's the only major downtime we ever had.
I do not think there is a need to panic. ;)

Vinay 09-20-2000, 11:53 PM i'm impartial...
i see alabanza go down for a while, and people start pointing fingers at them ...
the point is, look at the past year, or two, or however long you can compare and THEN consider uptime ....instead of taking 1 night...
its like sticking your foot into your mouth
la la la ... i will survive..

akashik 09-21-2000, 01:35 AM Times like these I usually quote a little phrase that seems to put it all in perspective.
Welcome to the Internet.
These things happen, after all the phyical make up of all these severs, and routers, and cables (and that hillbilly in W. Virginia who keeps rocking his chair back over the line my connection goes through, thus slowing my connection to a crawl), it's amazing it even works at all!
A bit of a hiccup. I've seen far worse happen...
