Are there any hosts here who are buying bandwidth by the 95th percentile method ? And mind to share your experiences and some info on prices, how reliable is 95th percentile compared to average or actual data transfer ?

You almost always pay more (2x - 3x) as much going with 95%

Aloha

question for you since I am a designer/ hosting client kind of guy and you always seem to have a good knowledge of this kind of stuff ?
a buddy of mine who has a ISP and is a tier2 provider has his onw NOC and also rents out of westin bldg we always talk about stuff and I am trying to get more educated with this stuff so here goes. ;)

he was telling me that sites that do a lot of traffic that 95% is sometimes better than straight depending on what you are serving out. if you hit large files once in a while but not all the time the top is knocked off so you tend not to pay for those ?
Adult sites is one example he said that can do well with 95%
he was also saying that if youre site is busy it will keep a pretty steady stream of data (of course dipping toward night)
he has told me that some of his clients aactually end up paying a bit less some a bit more ?
I know he offers 3 ways of paying
95%
straight at switch
dedicated pipe

this way the best way for what you are running can be provided ??

any thoughts ???
