w00t for MS. I'm sick of getting warning emails from the virus software on my server that it's blocked yet another Sobig.f email.

If I did know who did it, I would've taken the money for myself as well :P

Offering a total of $500,000 will be a great temptation for someone to break their silence - and do all legitimate users of the internet a favour
I can't fault that logic. The more virus writers that end up jail without computer access the better I think.

For every one thrown in jail there will be more. If you have ever noticed that these groups of hackers will often take revenge for their friends and associates being taken to jail. What could be in store if this happens may not bode well for MS users or MS. :( Either way I guess we, as the end users, lose.

250,000 can go quite a long way, especially if the virus originated out of a third world country.... Now if microsoft were to actually pay one of these people, it would create more and more people reporting, but I dont know if I would believe it at the moment, or if there was some 'catch.'

I certainly would. Among the script kiddy world, most people are under 18 anyway. That's a heck of a lot of money to them. Heck, it's a lot of money to people like me as well.

The *catch* is that if you report them after a reward is posted you are liable for the crime of "aiding & abetting" which basically means you didn't report them soon enough :P

Heehee, well they live in two different states than me, so I'd just say I just recently dicovered it.
