I am planning to install chat room and messageboard, and will have multimedia section with videos for goals and players on my site( they r max. 1 mb each but i may have about 100).

and i am planning to get 1000 hit or so per day.. how much data transfer do i need?

i was about top get valuable host with 3 Gb monthly transfer...but i just want to be sure that they will be enough:)

they have offer with 6 Gb plz tell me what will suit me ? as the 2nd offer is twice the cost of the first and if i won't need that extra bandwidth, so no need to pa more;)

you can find out how much bandwidth you will need by taking the size each person will download and multiplying it by the # of ppl and then 30 days

so if each person will download 10 movies at 1 mb each and you get 1000 ppl then you will use:

10*1000*30=300000mb of bandwidth

but for regular browsing assuming that the visitors won't download from my pay hoster, in average figures, how much bandwidth do I need for 1000-2000 visitors per day??

i am planning to get the 3gb offer...hope it is enough:)

plz advice me if i need more and tell me how much i need instead

even by going to your site [regular browsing] the visitor is downloading from the server. HTML pages, scripts and images. add up the sizes of all files & multiply by visitors per month, not per day.

if you're getting over 1000 visitors per day, then i'm sure you'll need more bandwidth than 3GB per month. if 1000 people each downloaded 3MB, you'd use 3GB per day.

make sure the "remote free server" allows this, especially if you're hotlinking. [i'm only saying so because i used to be one of those "remote free servers" and it made me so MAD.] :D

This is a really scummy thing to do, and totally defeats the purpose of a free server. I wish you would re-consider this.

you'll need more than 3gb

same thing for the pages, you just have to take the size of the pages and times them by 1000 and then 30

so if your pages total 1 MB in size then
1*1000*30=30,000 MB

I am running non profit site, i am offering free soccer news for my visitors for fun:)

but no one will pay me a penny for this, so i don't want to blow my wallet:)

i may place the videos on a mirror site to my site which will be hosted on a remote free server. If u can get me trustworthy hoster with 50$ per year that offers better bandwidth than valuable host and have support for perl, CGI, PHP....etc. I will signup for it:) I am sorry if this violate free server ruluz but what can I do instead!!!!?

ui have decided on ikonboard as my message board, still not decided on chat script!!! and not decided on a hoster, anyway, valuablehost.com have 6gb plan, i may consider it.
