Honu 09-06-2001, 02:55 AM Aloha yeah am running it on one box seems ok was running the beta version had a few glitches seems to be gone not much dif though it changed all my icons (I liked the old ones better) besides that a few media changes you can tell to open in the new media bar or not ( I said NOT !!) anyway flip a coin I have both incase design issues hit ;) WebSnail.net 09-06-2001, 04:01 AM Originally posted by Intelligent Hosting It looks like it's been officially released... anyone tried it? Yeah got it on one of my machines... To tell the truth I wouldn't bother. It's slower and more bloaty IMO and doesn't offer anything over 5.5. Todd 09-06-2001, 05:17 AM The only real noticeable change thus far has been the cookie related features. It's not a bad feature but it's nothing that a third party program couldn't have accomplished as well. It's an ok upgrade from the regard that your running the latest version and when they spot the next security problem with IE the released patch will have been tested on IE6 for sure. :D I haven't noticed an increase or decrease in terms of performance. sbrad 09-06-2001, 03:53 PM But it STILL beats the hell outta Netscape! lovelie 09-06-2001, 04:16 PM i think i'll stick with 5.5 for a while it'd be silly to trade in something i'm already happy with.. especially from what i've heard of 6.0 ;) WeinBar Jack 09-06-2001, 04:24 PM The stupid thing is with IE6.0, I cannot access my online banking. It is not a supported browser, although the requirements are IE 4.0+ and higher and 128 Bit security (which IE 6 has). But, I agree. No real differences at all. Stick with 5.5 mahinder 09-06-2001, 05:50 PM anyone tried outlook express. ? any new features. ? mahinder 09-06-2001, 05:52 PM Originally posted by WeinBar Jack The stupid thing is with IE6.0, I cannot access my online banking. Stick with 5.5 in IE 6 only BILL GATES bank accounts works. are you BG. ? :D :D :D Dogma 09-06-2001, 06:09 PM Originally posted by mahinder in IE 6 only BILL GATES bank accounts works. are you BG. ? :D :D :D too bad IE6 doesn't come w/ access to Bill Gates bank account.... :( :D eclipsewebs 09-06-2001, 11:31 PM I have been running the version that came with .NET beta 2. t has been very stable. I am not sure if it is the same verison as the one that was officailly released however. It is version 6.00.2462.0000. We have found one feature that has caught us. If you have client side vbscript, it may fail if you call a sub-routine with parenthesis in it. I can't give you all of the details of the problem, one of my developers has been finding every place where we have the problem. So far it seems to be around the XML parser that is being called. Martie 09-07-2001, 12:34 AM Im running it....cant really see a difference though. I ran the beta too with no problems....weird thing though, with the new IE6 there is a forum thats not displaying normally (not this one) All threads, postings, etc. appear centered, and any users that are running the IE6 report the same thing! Now when I had the beta, everything was normal, hehe. Go figure :D Amit_Arora 09-08-2001, 02:35 PM Yup, been using it for a week now .... Nothing breakthrough. I guess it is a regular update. Has a Cookie blocker - Nice feature. Seams to be faster then IE5 in some sites and slow on other. Microsoft says it is moving towards complying with the standards with this version .... Lets see ... Another thing ... Previously when IE (5, 5.5) used to crash they used to take the Explorer and my systems with them down. Now when IE6 it doesn't take the system or explorer down. Yeah I have heard and experienced then center alignment of some of the content especially in the tables ... (Is this Microsoft's way of compling with standards) ? All in all a regular routine upgrade ... GeorgeC 09-09-2001, 12:54 AM I read somewhere that IE6 is already overtaking NS6 in market share, though the rate of penetration compared to IE5 is significantly less and at a slower pace. The main reason is that people don't see enough of a reason to upgrade. Usually I'm the first to do that with my browser, though I still use IE5 right now. Honu 09-09-2001, 01:40 AM Aloha did not know that NS6 even had any market share ;) I never see it in my log files if so it is less than 1% which I do not look at mostly ie 5 & 5.5 akashik 09-09-2001, 04:17 AM Chad, Agreed. As a webhack I'm somewhat contricted by what's the popular browser. Market share tends to provide me with the browser I use the most, which is IE 5.5 My personal favorite is Konqueror, but obviously it's not the biggest as far as popular browsers go :) My res is also 800x600 though close to going to 1024 as the numbers rise. The curse of designers is we tend to have to stay within certain boundaries to keep our design in perspective :) Greg Moore GeorgeC 09-09-2001, 05:03 PM Yep NS6 has something like 3% marketshare now, so it's not hard to overtake that hehe. |
