View Full Version : Instant Degrees ?
Sticks 11-04-2003, 06:19 PM Do anyone have any information about Instant Degrees ?
(example : www.instantdegrees.com)
I may need it in near future because of military purposes. And some other reasons also.
Any inputs ?
NewtSys 11-04-2003, 06:28 PM hmmm I think it is wrong, but hey who am I to judge what one does. I also have a lil experience with what the US military looks for when you tell them you have a degree insomething so you can get ahead or a better MOS.... the research it and are very thorough.....and they will article 32 someone in a heartbeat for false claims of education.
Sticks 11-04-2003, 06:37 PM Ummm instead of military any comments , information about those degrees ?
Yes, I don't agree with that nor i won't have a job with that.
There is a rule in Turkey. If you're over 18 you have to join military for about 16 months (1,5 YEAR!) And it's a big loss in a person's life.
Yes , like i said i don't think it's right too however I may need to do that. I'm already studying at the college (American Culture And Literature) and it's my second year.
If someone has a degree (College / University diploma) you join the army for only 5 months or so.
:(
Davros 11-04-2003, 06:58 PM Anyone can sell you a BS, Masters or even a phD.. The question is who's going to honor it?
They'd be the only one getting benifit from it.. Your Money! Although the saying goes.. 'A fool and his money are soon parted'.
And in Turkey, who knows.. With their reputation of taking people and throwing them in jail for a minor offense and forgetting them for 45 years is it worth a few months? LOL
Sticks 11-04-2003, 07:05 PM :) Davros you're 90% right. (BTW I didn't say I'll get it. I'm just getting some information in case i need it.)
You said the only one who'll be getting benefit from it is the company who offers the degrees right ?
The answer is No
(This country is not good , I never liked it and never will.... )
Now let me explain why they won't be the only ones who'll be getting benefit from it :
For example I make about $15k - $20k a year.(Let's say 17)
So think about it : I'll do something which I don't want to - Joining Army... How long ? 1.5 year
1,5 x 17 = $25.5K loss.
That is not all . And a lot of loss in knowledge... Time loss... Info loss... Etc....
So when you look from this point of view things change...
eddy2099 11-04-2003, 07:09 PM A degree not earned by hard work is not considered a degree.
I understand your position, I personally never liked the military but had to do 30 months of full time military service and about 3 weeks each year for the next 13 years. It is no fun.
I am pretty weary about those InstantDegrees. Firstly, they seems so secretive about all the information on the web, so how knows you might be getting a bogus certificate one which you could land up with more trouble with the military if they discover how it is acquired. Over here that is enough to get you court marshalled and pay a hefty fine.
I read in the papers a while back that some people tried to use those degrees to land jobs but after the company found out how they got it, they got thrown out of their job and faced legal suits from the company for falsifying documents.
Apart from that, the main thing is that you be only cheating yourself. If one day your fellow colleagues asked you about what you study in your undergraduate program and how's life in so-and-so university or try to pick your brain on a topic or two from your supposed major, how would you react ?

:) eddy2099 I really really appreciate your input. That was a great info and that was what i needed.
Thank you very much.
Heathcliff 11-05-2003, 02:11 AM The degree racket is just a system that the educational/industrial complex uses to pre-screen applicants. Most jobs can be handled by trained pigeons, so if you can get over on an employer, I say go for it!
The degree is the goal, and the education is for the most part forgotten ten minutes after graduation anyway, so in most cases it makes little difference whether you get your brains pickled in college or not.
I wouldn't mess with the military, however.
coight 11-05-2003, 02:27 AM The army will make you a man, I wish they had conscript here.

I couldn't agree more. :)
barry[CoffeeSprout] 11-05-2003, 04:38 AM Being forced into the army is a waste of your time.
Im glad they removed the whole consription thing over here..
IMHO..if you cheat on your degree, what else will you cheat on?
Or more to the point ...what Won't you cheat on?
Sticks 11-05-2003, 11:47 AM tlp you're totally wrong. I'm not cheating anyone here nor planning to cheat anyone...
The point is they are making me do something which I don't want. (Not only me every business man who earns money and have a good life going on)
Lets end this topic guys please. It's ok Thank you for your inputs
:D

I would agree with you on this, I would be very interested to see how much you actually remember after a year once you finished your degree....
Work experience is far more valuable.

I wouldn't disagree with you about work experiences being valuable. There is no doubt about it. But not everyone would have instant work experience endowed on them when they first start work. For some, each day brings new challenges and new ways of tackling them.
As for education, it is true that we probably cannot absorb 100% of what we have learnt but I feel what we gain from education is more the methodology of how we do things which makes all the difference. It gives you the fundamental to build your work experiences on.
It is not so much the cramping for examinations which counts, that is just memory work but what counts is the projects you did, the group discussions, the coming up with solutions to issues.

Actually it would save governments millions if they had conscription, not so many health problems with younger people being overweight etc. It would also remove alot of Kiddy hosts. Win win I say :D
Acroplex 11-06-2003, 01:54 PM My 19 months in the (conscript) army was the best part of my adult life :D I'd do it again.
eddy2099 11-06-2003, 05:24 PM My 30 months in the (conscript) army was the worst part of my life, adult/teen or otherwise. I am still paying them several weeks a year in reservists training for the last 13 years..
Now I have this profound hatred for anything miltary. It basically has not thought me anything apart from opening my eyes to how cruel and selfish people can be and they are not supposed to be part of the enemies.
Acroplex 11-06-2003, 05:28 PM Edwin, you're in the US right? How come you did military service as a conscript?
eddy2099 11-06-2003, 05:30 PM Nope, I am not in the US, my servers are ;). I am from Singapore and my body is current still in Singapore. Actually National Service (Conscript) is compulsory here..
