3D Studio Max ... It's the Adobe Photoshop of the 3D world ...

I've used Bryce 3D with some really nice results. I have a couple landscapes I modelled at http://1ststrike.digitalart.org if you want to see them. I'm certainly not the best out there but you can get an idea of what it can do.

its all a myth ;)

people think this cause its pirated so much because it has poor copy protection.

in fact its not used as much as others (maya in particular) because it's for windows only. and what big organisation/studio are going to use windows on their render boxes? they use unix clusters to render their stuff. hence why almost all their competition is Windows/Mac/Linux compatible 100%.

Yeah, I use the free version of maya too, Although it does have a watermark...
