I use domain.com as the host name on all servers in a trust relationship. domain.com is created with a username on mars.domain.com - now I need to install a shared ssl certificate on another server apollo.domain.com, but I am required to add the username of the commercial domain.com in WHM. This doesn't, however, work because domain.com only has a username at mars.domain.com (master), it is not created as an account on apollo.domain.com which is a slave server.

So what am I going to do to get the certificate, which I just bought, installed on apollo.domain.com for shared ssl? Does anybody here know how to deal with such a problem? I tried root as username but it wouldn't accept it.

Thanks
John

From what I am reading, you are in need of a wildcard cert. These are "*.domain.com". You will be unable to use "domain.com on apollo.domain.com. They are two separate URLs. You need to create a wildcard CSR and submit to GeoTrust or Comodo (cheaper and better for what you are doing across multiple servers). Once you have it, you can use the key, csr and cert across multiple servers.

To be honest, I do not understand your username issue.

No, shared ssl are working perfectly well on other slave servers using domain.com - I don't know, however, how the techs set it up at that time but they did it after some problems. This is what I'm trying to learn now.

Actually a shared certificate had already been installed on apollo.domain.com, but the server crashed and everything were lost. So now we need to install a new certificate to get shared ssl working again on apollo.

There are a couple of popular methods of using SSL. 1) wildcard ssl, at around $500, and you basically get unlimited servers because you can use the cert for mars.domain.com, apollo.domain.com, etc. 2) ssl cert for each server, at $25-99 ea. In this case you would have 1 cert for mars.domain.com and another cert for apollo.domain.com.
