So I write back:

Hi,

You are in error. There are no files on this account, it is still
being developed.

And their response?:

Im sorry however we are unable to re-instate your account at this time. I wish you luck with your next provider.

What a joke! Excessive usage? HAHA, there was only an index file in the directory! haha...

We were just using them as a domain pointer for the time being until the site was up, so we didnt loose much, but it's funny considering the nonsense I have seen on their servers. oh well.

I have an old hypermart account i haven't used in a long time and yet it's still there. and considering the number of sites i've seen with illegal content i would bitch and hound them till i got my account back if they pulled crap like that!

I got the exact same letter, but I probly deserved getting it shutdown. It was just a file store, and for those who post on ArsTechnica and now about the "Babe Thread" know what Im talking about. I posted alot of pretty big hi-res pictures that I stored on my account, maybe 20 or so, and a week later, I get the letter.

My god Im glad I signed up before they instituted the whole credit card deal, charging for excessive bandwidth. At least they could have let me download the files off my account before they just suspended me.

Hello

I had a couple of sites on hypermart two years ago. I stopped working on their servers because they started to serve double popup advertise windows.

Since then they have changed more things . They have limmited bandwidth to 500 M / month.

They also ask for credit card on signup and permission to charge for anything they prefer.

These all are enogh to close your eyes to hypermart and virtualave (both from goto.com)

Regards,
Mac

well said. I used the banner ad only, but then they went around and started doing that AND popups and I knew my time with em was up, so I went with a commercial host.

Hmmm. I've always had good experiences with Hypermart. For providing a free service they aren't that bad. As long as they have an alternative to popup ads I'm happy.

Popup Ads = Bane of the internet!!

I'll pile on here...

They were a great free host. Good, reliable servers and you could place their banner anywhere "above the fold". But then the pop-up started to happen (unannounced) as well as the rest of the stuff and it was time to move on. Unfortunately, that seems to be the story with free hosts and the decline of ad revenue.

On the up side, paid hosting has come way down in price.
