Does anyone know where to register .com.tr domains ? Do you need an address in Turkey to be able to own a .tr ?

You have to be company registered in Turkey.

company ? :o

So a normal Turkish person cannot register any domain ? Imagine some guy Abdullah wants abdullahspage.com.tr, then he must register a company first ?

He probably would have to register abdullahspage.nom.tr,
wich is unrestricted as I recall

So a non-Turkish person can register hisname.nom.tr ?

The strange thing is that some Turkish soccer clubs have a .com.tr, which would mean those are all considered as companies :)

Yes, football clubs are companies (LTD).

I just took a look at nic.tr and understood that web.tr and gen.tr and unrestricted and don't require any proof at all. So this would mean that a non-Turkish person should be able to register hisname.web.tr or hisname.gen.tr.

Btw not all footballclubs are companies.

They are in Greece. At least for Division A and B (both professional divisions).

what about the Northern Cyprus region that is under Turkish authority ? They use the Cyprian domain, or the .tr ?

I am not sure about that Gerrit. I think they are elligible to use the .tr extension.

The occupied northern part of Cyprus is not part of the Republic of Cyprus and I am pretty sure it does not use the .cy TLD.

Opinions differ regarding that issue, but I agree with you the northern part probably uses .tr

What exactly is there to argue? The fact that it's occupied territory or that it's not part of the Republic of Cyprus?

Only country in the world that recognizes the occupied territory as its own country, is Turkey.

As far as I am concerned there should nothing be to argue. But I don't think this is what the thread is about.

Yes , me.
I'm so sad that Turkish Internet Market is sooo bad...

Yes , you have to have a Turkish company in order to Register a .com.tr domain. Also that's not all your company name must be the same for example :
You want to register mycomputer.com.tr
You have to own a company under : My Computer Ltd. Co. or something similar.

Also .com.tr prices are more expensive than a .com.

Have a nice day...

I know this is an old thread, but posting in case someone searches for info..
There is a nc.tr subdomain for Northern Cyprus, under Turkey. I could find only 5 domains using that, all of them being *.gov.nc.tr. Maybe it is no longer used? But Nortern Cyprus citizens can register directly under Turkey too.

By the way ".nom.tr" domains have changed into ".name.tr".

No persons can register a .nc.tr domain ?

.name.tr is for people in Turkey only or is it non-restricted ?

I am not sure about registering nc.tr domains, when I searched for *.nc.tr in netcraft.com/?host , I found only 5 registered domains and 4 of them redirected to ".org" ones so I guessed they were abandoned. There is nothing regarding the topic in nic.tr website. If you are interested I can certainly look more carefully or ask the webmaster though.

On name.tr: The official rule says it's for Turkish citizens or people living in Turkey so I guess it is practically non-restricted (you can give the address of someone you know who lives in Turkey). It's desirable because it is ultra-cheap (less than 3.5$) and very reliable (controlled by Middle East Technical University, which has no commercial interest in this).

You could do me a huge favour by checking on .nc.tr

Send me a PM and then I'll send you my e-mail address :)

On .name.tr : I know some Turkish people living in the Benelux, but no one in Turkey itself. So I'd have to ask not my Turkish friends here but family of them that remained in Turkey... A bit complicated. Would be easier if they'd drop the local presence-policy, certainly with the high number of Turkish people that live outside Turkey and may would like a .name.tr domain.

As a new user I cannot send you a PM (not allowed) so you'll have to PM me instead. I couldn't find any info on nc.tr so I'll ask it in a few minutes but I can't know when they'll answer.

If the name.tr domain is for your Turkish friends living in the Benelux, they don't need an address in Turkey. It is enough to have Turkish citizenship (I said it before but maybe it wasn't clear). They may not have it though but then they could ask their own families. If it's for yourself you can use my address. In that case send me some contact info so that I can reach in case of a trouble.

Edit: I can't even access the PM page so send me an e-mail instead, using the button below.

Finally I've been able to get the answer from the NIC. Currently the DNS Working Group of Turkey is discussing the topic of nc.tr domains. They will inform the public when they decide. nc.tr domains can't be taken now.

I see... well, thanks for the info ! I'll send you a PM with my e-mail addresses if you'd like to chat some more on domains
