View Full Version : hosting for .com.ru domains?
| where can you get .com.ru domain hosted? is there a free hosting company out there? |
Vladimir S. 11-02-2003, 01:23 PM I'm sure that anyone can host it:) |
jag121 11-02-2003, 07:25 PM | If you want to host a .com.ru and you haven't registered it yet your host needs nameservers in different subnets. It's a requirement of the application process and I think they check it. |

*looking for my "Internet for dummies" book to look up what a subnet is*
Another stupid question of mine, but the technical side of domains isn't very clear to me yet. But I'm a fast learner :) |

Not just different subnets, I think they want different C class subnets.
Class C - 100.100.100.xxx
The first 3 octets must be different. :)
FYI:
Class B: 100.100.xxx.xxx
Class A: 100.xxx.xxx.xxx
Subnets subdivide the pool of ip address into different chunks. Division can be done much more flexibly than above throug subnet masks.

Luke2 11-03-2003, 09:00 AM Yup, subnets are usually divided regionally, with .com.ru you will need nameservers in different class C subnets.
I usually as a rule of thumb say Europe and the States would be considered different subnets, but obviously each country has a completely differnet subnet, so Germany and Spain would be fine.
In terms of who can host .com.ru Pala, any host can, but you would be better looking for a host that has nameservers located in different countries (see above) so you will not need to make seperate arrangements. |
Gerrit 11-03-2003, 01:53 PM why does .com.ru need different subnets anyway ? |
Luke2 11-03-2003, 04:45 PM RIPN says basically because of connectivity, so that users will still be able to resolve your site if one zone is experiencing problems. Of course this doesnt change anything if you are only hosting your website in one location, which is why many people argue against the requirement. RIPE also require this incidentally. |
jag121 11-03-2003, 06:08 PM What's RIPE? And also, thry don't actually have to be class C subnets. My host has nameservers in class A subnets and its working fine. They're at ev1servers. |

As for .ru domains, for example you need:
ns1.domain.com - IP 64.200.51.10
ns2.domain.com - IP 64.200.52.10 |
4$Hosting 11-03-2003, 08:08 PM You only need to use the nameservers from the server of your hosting company when you register the domainname.
Every domain extension works on a server, you only have to use the correct nameservers. |
Luke2 11-03-2003, 09:11 PM Thanks Jag and Vladimir, I was aware of some networks that had laxed the class C requirement (although not officially) and until now wasn't aware that RIPN was one of them.
Lost you a but there 4$Hosting, .ru domains don't follow the requirements that TLDs such as .com do. |
