What happens is they want you to supply your credit card to a third party which you know nothing about, or what even happens with your credit card data. The third party takes out their fee and sends the hosting company the rest, with fees as high as 20% of the charge, which is directly included somehow in the cost!

We at The Prevo Network have our own credit card merchant account. What does that mean? When you supply your info to us, we are the only ones with access to your information and our name will appear on your monthly credit card statement, nobody else.

A good 98% of the WHT members have an idea of how this works, and know it's not a bad thing at all, you make it seems as though it's a great injustice being commited.

The client may not know much about the 3rd party company, however there are only so many of these companies, all with a relatively large client base, and very reliable. For example, I will be using PayPal, one of the most trusted online billing systems around.

I've never heard of a company that takes 20%, nor do I think anybody would sign up with one that did.

It really isn't included in the cost at all, because if it were, hosts would have to charge more, and they would be put out of buisness by people charging less.

Now, don't get me wrong, I fully understand that there are people that this sort of ad targets, and there are people that it affects, but I don't approve of the way you downgrade 3rd party billing systems, some of us just don't have enough extra money to afford a full merchant account. People that start out using a 3rd party thing generally do so because of the money issue, and once they have enough to spare, they go for a full merchant account.

[Mods: if you feel this is out of line in any way, I apologize, and feel free to edit it as you see fit]

I understand where you are coming from, I even used a 3rd party at start up.

This is a advertising forum, I was advertising that I have a merchant account. I mentioned no other host names in my post.

I am sorry but it is my feelings, as well as possibly the customer's feelings, that their credit card info is very confidential. Using a 3rd party breaches that.

I am not trying to start anything at all by posting this. I know that there are people out there that get chills when they log onto a site and see "billing handled by"

It is called competition. This post explains what the difference is.
Having a merchant account, in my opinion, shows that you are just that much more stable.

They are nothing but a hassle.

If you are in the US, merchant accounts are not that hard to get into. I was into mine for $70.

I agree with you Relyc.

As a host myself I felt offended.

We use revecom for all our transactions, over $8,000 worth of sales each month. We do not charge more just because our mechant charges us $1.50 on each transaction.

"What happens is they want you to supply your credit card to a third party which you know nothing about, or what even happens with your credit card data. "

This statement does not make any sense. Why would it make it more safe to provide my credit card to you, then to an experienced 3rd party processing company. I guarantee you that most 3-party processing companies have much more secure databases then regular hosting providers, some hosting companies store their clients billing info in their C: drive.

Using your own merchant account does not make you any better host, nor more safer to submit CC# to you.

You should reconcider your ADs for the future.
