This Issue Has Been Resolved Thanks to Matt :)

Ugh, Site5.com started as what I thought was a good host. For most of the time I hosted my site there reliability and tech support was ok. Ocational Downtime no big deal. Well it started about a week ago, my Bulletin Board was just crawling (And about 75% of my visitors agreed in a poll), many people posted at the site5support.com forums wondering what was up. Out of it therw were no direct answers and more people started complaining of high load averages and slow sites. About 3-4 Dayz Ago I started getting 100's of DB errors from my from my Forums Like:

Database error in vBulletin: Link-ID == false, connect failed mysql error: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (111) mysql error number: 2002

Or

Database error in vBulletin: Invalid SQL: SELECT *,thread.open FROM poll LEFT JOIN thread ON (thread.pollid = poll.pollid)
WHERE thread.forumid='35' ORDER BY poll.dateline DESC LIMIT 1 mysql error: Lost connection to MySQL server during query mysql error number: 2013

Of witch I never to this date got a direct response from them as to whats going on. Many people on my Site5 Server complained of the same kind of things. (My Server is Hyperion @ Site5)

To Add to it my site was suspended for supposidly using 40% of the server resources, I only run a forum with maybe 15 to a max of 30 people on at one time. (This was a Sunday night it was shutdown not a busy time). They didnt bother contacting me that my site was shutdown, they simply shut it down and told me nothing. All I saw with my visitors was a 403 Forbiden Error, after playing email tag, they let my account back on (Though I still didnt believe I used 40% of resources) Reading the Site5 forums atleast 4 other people got there sites Suspended or shutdown for some reason. All they can get is the famous 403 Forbiden Error with no services access, many people had emailed site5 with no response to there downed site. (I still dont think there is a resolution)

So after all this fun, my site is sporatic, still getting MySQL errors by email in hords. Still no response to my problems (And others) on there forums, So I have tried another attempt at email to witch I got an autoresponder. I am hoping to get a response soon, as I am 99.9% sure I will be going somewhere else for hosting.

This is probably one of the first bad things I've seen about them.

Hi All,

Thanks for the kind words. While I'm trying to remember the password to my "Site5-Matt" account (dropped from the top posters list!), I figured this justified registering a second account to clear things up. ;)

We were aware of this issue, and have partially resolved it already. We will be completing the second stage of the resolution tomorrow. If anyone is interested in the soggy details, the issue has just recently been addressed on our own community forums located at:
<< URL removed - this place has it's own mini slashdot effect. :smash: email me if you really want the URL. >>

Our apologies to anyone who was affected by this incident. will504 - I have already taken the liberty of applying a service credit for this month to your account. Feel free to email me directly at mlightner@site5.com if you have any questions/comments/etc. :)

Regards,
Matt Lightner

i was just searching for webhosts and i found this forum.

i too am on site5.com (also on the hyperion server). i've only been signed up a bit over a month but i keep getting those account suspension symptoms. last night my site was down for about 12 hours with the 403 forbidden error message. this time i couldn't even check my email.

is there a solution to this?

i received a lot of hits on my old host hispeed.com, but not once did they suspend my account.. and their hosting plan was a lot less generous (despite claims of it being unlimited)

i can't afford a dedicated server, but i really do not want my site to be suspended for 12 hours at a time every day.

i do like site5.com but the account suspension problem is really getting to me.

It's the second time in 3 weeks this is happening to me. My site is down since yesterday 6 am GMT, no resolve yet. No mail, no FTP, nada, just a 403. :(

thomas1-
my site goes back up after a few hours usually. the first couple of times it happened, i could check my email and people could send email to me. but the last few times, even my email has been suspended.. which is kind of annoying because submissions from users help build my website.

is yours on hyperion? mine is. i heard they were moving some people over to another less loaded server..

anyway, site5 seem pretty good.. i was (selfishly!) glad to see this post about others with the same problem... ;)

Anathema,

I was one of those who were moved over to Calypso, a very fine server. I still cannot believe my site is consuming huge resources, however, I was never told what exactly caused the shutdown. I am in particular annoyed that I am unable to receive or send email.

Last time Site5 gave generous credits to customers, but I prefer my site up and running instead of more than 36 hours downtime without any feedback.
