Iv'e been using Wireless Internet ( WiFi 802.11 ) for a time now, Iv'e came to conclusion that's there is nothing better then Cables! the old thing :) Really the BEST!

My Wireless is always disconnecting (after few hours of work, it starts to lose the connection with the router.. hmm?)... and the speed it 22MBPS instead of my Cables (ahh old plane :)) 100MBPS!

So.... I have decided to go back to Cables! The best , old plane! :)

BTW if you wondering what hardware I have:

Wireless Router: D-Link DI-614+
Wireless Card: D-Link AirPlus DWL-650+

If anyone has any comment, so please comment! Maybe you will be able to give me a solution how to get it more faster then 22MBPS and why does it disconnect (lose the router) after a time!

This makes me angry! :o  :(

This makes me angry! :o  :( I had a D-Link USB NIC that would randomly uninstall itself. I'm not a big fan of D-Link. These days wireless CAN work reliably, securely, and speedily. You just need the right setup. I'll leave what the "right setup" is to someone else.

I've found that our wireless is only good for surfing the web - but as soon as you want to download something, etc, it all goes down the drain, which is prompting the installation of cable ;)

I have only good things to say about wireless. I use a Microsoft brand access point and Microsoft brand cards ... and I even have my powerbook with my Airport Extreme card on it too ... and I NEVER have any problems. Wireless networking is freaking awesome!

Anyway, your issues are probably due to the faulty drivers D-Link creates. I would recommend going out and purchasing some better equipment and you'll get better results.

Thanks for the comments, what I can say, the Wireless Network Card, is working perfect, because when I sit in Airports Business Lounges, I'm accessing without any problems!

This hardware costed me $200, Could you please be more specify and tell me what hardware to buy? that's I won't throw another $200 ?

We use all Linksys parts. No problems downloading, and our connection is nearly 100% of wired speeds. I've never had much luck with D-Link parts, but have had zero issues with Linksys...

Guys, were talking here about Israel, we don't have things like you have in the states ;)

I think we have only D-Link, but I'm travelling next week to Athens, maybe I'll find there something ?

Netgear.. yuck.

Here are the brands to purchase in the U.S (in order by performance)

1) Cisco
2) Orinoco (Proxim)
3) Linksys Wireless-G

Those are it.

Now if you get the Orinoco, get the Orinoco GOLD PCI Card for Laptop.

My internet connection is Microwave. I have an Orinoco Wireless card connected to a dish on my roof that connects to the base station about 1 KM away. The internet connection is lightning fast and reliability is very high. It is like having my own T1 line :D

I challenge you to a Microwave/Wireless download competition. Lets see who sucks what. You choose the file and site. Then we screen shot the download.

I prefer tranzeo equipment. They are a canadian based copany and have had the best of the wireless world since we installed it.

Of course our wireless is WI-FI to the town so there is a 802.11b tower antenna that pumps 2.4ghz signal to the town, then we have station-adapters at each client side for desktops, or we have pcmcia cards for the people that like roaming access... never seem to have an issue.

As for home wireless I lean towards Netgear for the wireless routers and cisco aeronet pci cards.

Got a Netgear Switch here. Not wireless, but works a charm. Simple plug and play installation. Cost a little more than some of the competition, but it's been well worth it. Looks nice too :)

Royi, I have even worse experience with wireless. I'm on US RObotics equipment and it sucks big time. The connection and speed is very poor considering to my 100Mbts cable connection. Plus, the quality of the signal is weak - like about 80%, even though the router is is no more than 10 feet away from the receiving end.

not too bad of speeds for wireless internet from a tower 1 mile away:

I have Siemens router, and Edimax cards. Everything has external antennas.

I've never lost signal around here, even with a microwave near the base station and my 2.4Ghz phone.

Artashes, The speed goes faster on my Cable, 100MBPS, but the Connection is fine now! It works great now :)

On the Cable, it goes upto 200-250KB / S for downloading in Europe, and 150-200KB / S for the US / Asia.

On the Wireless, 100-150KB / S in Europe, 60-100KB / S for the US and Asia.

Well, in here 0.5MBPS package is like a 56k for the States, It's not fast as in the states :( but I have the 1.5MBPS connection, which is better :)

I have also used Netgear quite a bit and never had an issue with them. We use Netgear for all our Commercial network installations.

In Wireless, you get what you pay for. I have a Cisco A/P along with Cisco Wireless Cards in all of my laptops. Never once, in two years, have I had any problems. I can go down the street, to the golf course and still have perfect access to my network.

cisco stuff isn't cheap though, at all. heh

i use linksys wap11 and wpc11 (i think those are the models) for my laptop which runs FreeBSD; worked right out of the box and everything so I'm not complaining...sometimes I'll notice a drift in speed, like it'll get really slow, but then fixes itself or whatever...dunno why it does it; the AP is in the same room.

In our complex, we have a wireless network since cable or DSL internet is not available here. It works pretty good. The cards are Orinocle.
