How can you use multiple IP's and dns servers on a raq server. We have got the IP's and we want to give our reseller customers their own DNS name servers. How can we do this?

Richard Omair Haroon 09-04-2001, 01:06 PM Simply do this : add a vitual site for primary dns with ip1 add another virtual site for secondary dns with ip2 add A record for primary dns i.p.address.1 add A record for secondary dns i.p.address.2 add ptr for both the IPs. resgiter them with your domain registrar.. Simple.. Haisoft 09-04-2001, 01:16 PM Yes but don't I need another dns server for the IP to point to our server? Omair Haroon 09-04-2001, 02:24 PM What do you mean by that ?? Haisoft 09-04-2001, 02:41 PM What I mean is that when I test the nameservers it says that there isn't a port set up for the IP on the name server ! Some people suggest creating virtual sites but it doesn't seem to change anything so I have come to the conclusion that I might need to install more DNS servers ! Omair Haroon 09-04-2001, 03:59 PM What I simply do is : Create ns1.domain.com with IP1 Create ns2.domain.com with IP2 Add a and ptr record for ns1.domain.com Add a and ptr record for ns2.domian.com I have followed the same way three or four times for my resellers and it worked.. Reg 09-04-2001, 04:07 PM If you wish to add more than two IP's (for DNS), in your DNS control panel, add new A and PTR records for the domains (ns3.yourdomain.com etc) and use the other IP addresses (perform the reverse function). This will add your extra IP's. Haisoft 09-04-2001, 04:46 PM Thankyou, I have done a test to see if it works. If when my registrar has done the changes www.id01.org (my trial site) is accessable than what you have suggested works (in the whois the name server should be ns.id01.org ). I hope it does ! Richard Reg 09-04-2001, 05:26 PM Yep. It worked. I just ran a host lookup on your domain and it in fact points to ns.id01.org. I also ran a lookup on ns.id01.org and it points to IP XXX.XXX.171.163 (forgot the first part). I also typed in http://www.id01.org and it showed up. |
