Hi there,
After going through the postings, I have decided to get a Reseller Account with below10host.com.
TraceRoute showed (from HostInvestigator.com) this:

Hop Hostname/IP
ge0600.ed1.wdc.dn.net (216.167.2.66) - our router
fe1000.ca2.wdc.dn.net (209.207.190.37)
serial1-0-1.gw3.dca3.alter.net (157.130.15.229)
108.at-2-0-0.xr1.tco1.alter.net (152.63.32.66)
193.at-1-0-0.tr1.dca6.alter.net (152.63.34.14)
121.at-5-0-0.tr1.atl5.alter.net (152.63.0.101)
297.at-2-0-0.xr1.atl5.alter.net (152.63.80.253)
193.atm4-0.gw2.mia4.alter.net (146.188.233.177)
dialtone2-gw.customer.alter.net (157.130.85.230)
ns.below10host.com (12.26.136.14)

Also, their Ping times are more than twice that of Alabanza (from hostinvestigator.com which uses dn.net).

So, are they still with Alabanza? Do they have a reliable server? How is their support? If anyone knows about their present level of service and anyone who presently hosts with them, your suggestions will be very helpful.

Also, if there is a better Alabanza leased host with better pricing and competitive service, please tell me your experiences with them.

Thanks :-)

Aah. Hostmatters has an impressive support infrastructure. I got answers to all my questions immediately through their HumanClick chat applet. Now I'm impressed with the service that I may not mind the few extra dollars over below10host.

But I haven't contacted below10host yet. They dont have live chat is one of the reasons. Now I feel lazy to send an email. So I don't know anything about their support. But I would love to see a live chat applet on a support site.

I think I've made my mind.
Lemme see.

Cheers,
TheWingThing.

TWT,

If you do a search in this forum for Below10Host, you'll find an explanation from myself as to why Below10Host's ping times are slightly slower to Alabanza.

You'll also see I'm a big fan of them :D Whether you go with HostingMatters or Below10 you should have no problems with either.

I have signed up for the last two hosts that I have used mainly because they were using Human Click to answer questions on the spot. I even decided to use Human Click on my site because I saw how it sold me. http://www.cfoxhost.com has everything that I could need in a host. Very quick, reliable and is very fair. Plus any question, any time of the day, I also get a real time customer service person there to help. http://www.cfoxhost.com is who I would recomend for what you are looking for.

Hi all,

I have just signed up with Alabanza and I asked them if Below10Host.com is with them.. they said NO.. it's weird because they offer 9.95 plus shopping cart..but alabanza charge me $10 per month for shopping cart... HOW do they make money doing that???

anyone have any idea??

Thanks

Unless they've suddenly shifted servers from Alabanza (and I can't see why they would), then I don't understand that.

Their site still has the usual 'Tier 1 with Frontier Globalcenter' blurb which is standard on nearly all Alabanza-based sites. I think where the confusion might be coming in is that Alabanza looked at Below10's base site (which is hosted on Dialtone Internet, not Alabanza) and thought (not surprisingly) that they weren't a client of them. In fact, if you mention 'AMS Hosting' then they will probably say yes - the base company AMS has a ring of 5 or 6 sites reselling Alabanza space at different prices.

As for the shopping cart question, I believe it has something to do with averages, but I can't be sure...

Yes, I do think so too. But how do they offer AlaCart in a package and sell them for $9.95? when alabanza sell the Alacart for $10? :)

Quite frankly I wouldn't have the faintest idea... Even though I used to host with Below10 I never used their shopping cart (nor asked for it to be activated).

However, I just thought of something : they do have two or three special 'bigger' plans which are around $15-30/month, so that might average it out. Apart from that, I can't think of anything else... :smash:

I think you'd be on the right track there. If they pay $10 and sell for $9.95 they may just be offering it 'free' as an extra service and make it up through the hosting fees. An example would be two companies who register domains through Dotster. One charges $15 a year and breaks even, another charges $25 and makes $10. Say their plans are exact, same, support structure, performance *yadda yadda*, chances are you'd go for the cheaper domain registration.

A break even registration and gain a hostee, or try for a profit on the registration, and have people look elsewhere.

Also maybe the basic 'hook' package doesn't make such of a profit, but the higher 'quality' packages do, and as mentioned it evens out.

A bit of creative marketing to garner client base? Why not.. that's what it's all about :) I may be way off track of course.

*chuckle*

well thanks. Can't claim too much for it though. I have a few clients who are marketing guru types, and have taken notes more than once. Also I use a simple measure in these things as well...

... what would work on me?

I'm pretty average and reasonably human, so if I think what would work for me in regards to getting myself to buy something, there's a good chance the same theory will work on other people. You just have to learn to take a step back inside your own head and see what works. It's not 100% gold, but what is? And it's better than stabbing blindly hoping to skewer someone with an idea. :)
