Hi,

Is it possible to update Cpanel on a daily basis automatically, rather doing it through WHM?

You could setup cron to run /scripts/updatenow and /scripts/upcp daily. We prefer to do our manually after we have seen what new bugs are presented in each update.

yes it is. Go over WHM configuration, you will find it

Step 1:
Login to WHM

Step 2:
Under "server setup" you will see the option "change update preferences"

Change it to Automatic (stable, release or edge) and it will update nightly on its own.

But I agree it's better to do it manually. If you do it nightly, you subject your systems to too much change and problems is bound to crop up sooner or later.

I'm doing it manually daily, how often should I be doing it?

What I usually do is to read the Changelog often (daily or once every 2-3 days) If there's a new feature I think is significant, I will wait another day or 2, and check the Cpanel Forums to make sure there isn't a horde of angry complains before I upgrade. Works well so far. since we did that, we pretty much have very little issues with Cpanel.

the problem with Cpanel auto update is that it updates daily. That itself is a recipe for disaster since your system is always in a state of change. Sooner or later, something will break (and it always does)
