Does anyone know of any cheap domain registration sites that will register a .ca name??? All the ones that I've seen recommended don't include .ca

Thanks in advance

If you are Canadian, go to BareMetal or EasyHosting. Both charge less than CAN$20 per name year. If you are not Canadian, you are probably NOT eligible to register one. Hope this helps.

I think so, just like .us you have to be a US citizen to own one right?

Yes.

And for those who are going to say no, the answer is YES! Dot-ca's registration requirements are even stricter than those of .us. Of course, people park in spaces reserved for the handicapped all the time.

There are European registrars that offer .CA , so in fact they cannot legally offer these domains ?

Anybody can sell anything but the main thing here is the buyer or the registrant, they have to be from canada, us etc.

You may actually register a .ca with just ANY registrar (Register.com e.g. also offers .ca registration), but like many other ccTLDs, you must fulfill certain requirements to be eligible.

By the way, non-Canadian registrars which offer .ca registration are mostly resellers or partners of CIRA-certified registrars. eNom for instance actually set up a Canadian company (eNom Canada) in order to be certified.

Hope this helps.

If I, as a Belgian, would buy a .ca domain with for example Kiss.ca or eNom Canada, then the registrar would have to be the legal owner ?

It seems there is an alternative for non-Canadians though : UnoNIC.com and JoyNIC.com offer "Canadian redirections"

I could imagine Californians (with the same abbreviation CA) wanting a .ca, but why anybody else? Frankly, even as a Canadian, I am reluctant to register too many dot-ca's myself.

By the way, you should NEVER let anybody other than you to be the registrant, a.k.a. legal owner.

www.domainsatcost.ca/payment.asp are charging only $17.49 CDN / year

if you can find a better deal, let me know as I'm about to register some .ca domain.

Man, .ca registry is so complicated. I was helping one of my friends to register new name and those CIRA policies are just creepy

There are A LOT of BETTER deals as PRICE is only ONE of the things that defines a good deal. As I have posted again and again, I would DEFINITELY pay a couple of dollars more for a RELIABLE service. I regret choosing the "cheapest" registrar and have been moving ALL my .ca domains (including those of my clients) to either EasyHosting or BareMetal.
