This might sound like a really dum question but why do people spam?

I mean its such a waste of time dont you think? beacsue who actually reads spam?

Yeah i suppose somone could say there trying to advertise, but dont they know that there is other ways?

Dont know about you, but if somone e-mails my home e-mail and i dont know who its from i just delete it.

Many thanx

p.s sorry if it sounds like im moaning, im not really. just wondering why people do it.

There was an article somewhere not to long ago where they interviewed a spammer. He was saying that he nets 1.5 mil a year at .1% read rate so it is a pretty decent business for somebody who is doing it full time.

The rule of market economy applies here. If it was not profitable they would not do it. And it is profitable because some people do buy viagra online.

Why becasue it's almost free money. It costs the spammer little or nothing. Say they send out 3 million emails; if only 1% responded and eash response generated $10 then hey have just generated $300,000 for what amounts to $0 invested. Pretty good ROI.

As with most such things $$$ is the bottom line.

well, someone needs to find that 1% or 0.1% and give them a labotomy.

The sad thing is, many people both read and sign up for SPAM emails. Most of us know better, but a fair-sized minority don't. It's not much work to send out an email to X amount of people. Even if a fraction of that X amount sign up, then the SPAM has paid off.

It's really not a waste at all when doing the math. It's just not very high up on the "Ethical Way to Run a Business List". ;)

Unfortunately, as long as a few open and signup for the offers every once in a while, there will continue to be SPAM.

Someone thinks that spam is the same of a good publicity.

They buys CDs with large amount of emails address and then ...BLOOOMMM ...send its

They are very happy because they thinks that massive emails is the best way to the paradise...and then wait a lot of hits

We can do nothing with this ignorants persons...then we must smile because God love us ... :)

Actually - unlike most people think there is a semi high investment needed as well as monthly over head to be an email marketer.

You need to purchase software, servers, and email lists.

total costs range someone where around $10k/month usually.

This is untrue.. There are quite a few companies that will provide this service for a flat fee or in some cases a percentage of sales. None the less it's still a high profit return.

10k a month, maybe for a high end provider. But not for Joe Spammer.. He can easily buy the services from someone else. And since it's such a popular method of marketing you can be sure that 10k dished out by the provider is a drop in the bucket when compared to the overall monthly income they get from people who purchase thier service..

Spam should be outlawed

Trust me for a lot of them the fee's are that high - others are paying around $3k/week in overhead and other expenses.

I know a bunch.

I have an opt-in newsletter that has thousands of members and I normally take in about 50~100 per month (depending on month). Out of that I'll loose maybe 25~50 per month (no good e-mails, opt-out). At the end of the month I'll send out a newsletter and it is good for 10~ 20 sales within 1 day of sending the newsletter.

I can't imagine what would happen if I could send out 500,000 e-mails directly to people who would be interested in my product.... I dream on, but I'm no spammer.

That is what spam is all about... MONEY. People do buy things from e-mail!

Isn't it true though that when you opt-out or click the remove me link on the email they just add you to another list?

The obvious answer is yes. I forget where i read it but it stated most all the spam in the world comes from only a handfull of people.
