View Full Version : Host shopping AGAIN!
Wassercrats 09-03-2001, 08:31 PM Here's an original question. I'm looking for a host. Which one is good? Some of my requirements are they should NOT have a Cpanel or Alabanza control panel, they should offer a Linux account but not use Red Hat, and it should cost under $30.00/month. I want them to accept checks too, but if you don't know whether they do, I'll find out myself.
Update- forget the ban on Red Hat. I'm leaning towards Futurequest.
gitaarwerk.net 09-04-2001, 11:56 AM Hi,.. I am on EWSNL.COM they are really good...
I have been hosting there fore more than 6 months and I never got any problem with them...
their service is great, uptime almost 100% (once been offlien for 2 hours) and further what you asked about control panels...
this one haven't got what you posted here..so I guess that is good?
try them out, give it a try or something, I am sure you'll love this host
Jburnley 09-05-2001, 12:29 AM APIX...did you read the rules before tunnig your ads. Chicken is going to be after you shortly. If we alran posts like yours this place will be far from were it is today. The is a thread you can post your ads on...I see this is only your first posting, so you are a freshman and Prefessor Chicken has not given you the 1st day of class orientation yet.
Anyway to the guy looking for a host using somethin other than CPANEL or Alabanza - which I agree both have serious issues - you can try donhost, can't remember the URL but do a search in google. I think they're in the UK
Thanks for the warning. I did not realize it was not permitted. A lesson learned now.
I guess it helps to read the rules before I post.

You'll find lots of reading and will be able to make an informed decision about them  ;)
Wassercrats 09-06-2001, 04:59 PM Thanks for the suggestion. I'll look into them. Incidently, FutureQuest is out of the question because they haven't responded to my question about whether I can use a domain like Polisource (dot com) rather than a subdomain, even after two days. The only mention they make of requiring subdomains is in a small heading that says "Full Virtual Domain Packages." I've seen no mention that they allow only virtual domains anywhere except for one message on this forum that was rebutted with one that said they now allow regular domains. I'm sure many people have been disappointed to discover this after signing up.

I've searched our email management system and was unable to find a reference concerning your above post. All of the email sent our way is answered in 24 or less -- usually less than 15 minutes. I cannot address these issue on this forum as I believe it's against the rules but I do believe there is a serious misunderstanding and would appreciate the opportunity to clear it up as FutureQuest has been hosting full virtual domains for over three years now. Please send your request to Service@FutureQuest.net so that we may address it accordingly.
Wassercrats 09-07-2001, 03:22 PM I just added a word in bold to that message to make it more clear. My complaints were that you don't offer regular domains (as far as I can tell) like XXX.com, that this fact isn't all that clear from your website and from posts/reviews about your web hosting even outside of your website, and that you never responded to my email. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt about not responding since I sent a complaint to Laclede Inc. about their mouthwash on the same day and never got a reply. Maybe it's time for me to say goodbye to my 4anything email account.
We do...and always have offered this. All of our packages (except the sub-domain package which allows you to add a sub-domain to your main domain name) are built for those who own their own full domain names. I am still unsure where you are getting this information from. What email address did you send your request to?
And again...please feel free to contact us to clarify as I have not yet seen an email from you (that I can tell) concerning the above and these forums are not the appropriate area.
Wassercrats 09-07-2001, 06:11 PM I found the problem. The message here on WHT referred to you recently offering dedicated IP's. It wasn't about domain names. The definition of virtual domains at:
http://www.tigerhaven.net/faq/index.php?faq=SALES#faq_ec207a7c52039549ecaa0e6a662fa0f9
made me think that I would need one of those prefixes before ***********. I've now seen other definitions and I understand what a virtual domain is.
I don't remember what address I emailed you at. In the future, I'll email you at the one you gave me. If you search for an email with 4politics.com within the from field, you may find the one I sen't you, assuming 4anything.com didn't mess up the transmission.
hmm so many definitions pertaining to individual offerings...I can certainly see where the confusion is. What they describe as a "virtual domain" is what I most often see titled a "sub-domain".
I wasn't able to find your email.... so yes, if you were to have questions please be sure to send them to the address listed. Our EMS will immediately send out an autoresponse noting that it was received at minimum and that will provide a tracking number for you. We take our email pretty seriously.
Wassercrats 09-07-2001, 07:19 PM Oh, I never got the autoresponder message. I guess just about everything that could go bad did. Not new for me.
Chicken 09-07-2001, 07:49 PM That is an interesting way of defining the terms. I'd say (more often than not), hosts will describe it as Deb does:
Virtual Domain - or Domain Hosting (what they call a Registered domain):
yourdomain.com
Sub-Domain (what they call a Virtual Domain):
something.theirdomain.com or
something.yourdomain.com
Now try to find all the various ways hosts define 'domain pointers' and 'redirects' :D
