I'm shopping around for a dedicated server, but am having trouble finding one that is right for me.

I *was* looking at *****, until I found out that their service is all show and nothing else but a sporadically updated website and horrid customer service.

Can anyone tell me what host might be right for me?

HOSTS TO OMIT ---

*****.com
RACKSHACK.com

Things I Want/Need...

- UNIX-based
- At least 190GB/month Data Transfer
- At least 2GB Storage
- At least 64MB RAM
- Complete and total virtual access to the server via my home PC.
- MANAGED Server (Daily Reboot, stuff like that)
- At *LEAST* 99.95% uptime.
- The ability to put unlimited domains on the server at no additional cost, other than the price for domain registration.
- Power Backup
- I prefer a company that hosts the servers on a fairly powerful/robust network.
- Ability to stream Live RealAudio/Video
- Unlimited Email Accounts
- Ability to execute PERL scripts.
- Microsoft Frontpage Extensions would be nice but are *NOT* a necessity.

I'm also looking for good customer service (simple questions are responded to within 24 hours).. Online chat would also be helpful.

What I Want to Pay ---

*PREFERRABLY* Under $100/month.

I may be asking for something too good to be true. If I am, let me know.

Thanks!!! Any suggestions are GREATLY appreciated.

Yes, too good to be true.

190GB/month will cost the host between $200 and $600 per month, *just* for the bandwidth, maybe more for some. Plus the server, plus the management plus the profit. You're looking at about $300 - $500+, depending of the hardware (a dual PIII will cost more than a cobalt).

Good luck!

Yes, good luck.

The closest service you're going to find is Rackshack, and for reasons unstated you have decided not to go with them.

So essentially, RackShack is paying hundreds of dollars for me to using hundreds of GB of transfer per month from them... And I would only be paying $99 a month for that. That doesn't make sense to me.

Well, I haven't completely turned down RackShack. I've just seen WAYYY too many negative reviews.

Thanks.

Well, RackShack counts on volume...and they are pretty large. Not everyone will use the whole 300GB too :)

Robert Marsh, the CEO, explained it in this thread (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?threadid=17688).

Most negative threads drag that point back up to the surface.

From what I have experienced, the deal is legitimate. Of course, they don't expect every customer to use that 300GB. That doesn't mean you won't be able to use your 300GB.

I've been using RS for a while now. I haven't had any problems with my RaQ or with their services (except an occasional outage due to their recent upgrades). Their deal is legit. Although the majority of RS users never reach the 300GB mark, there have been customers who have reached near that number. As for service, most of the "negative" responses have to do with support issues. Some of the customers (and non-customers) notice that RS has a lack of support due to little training. For an experienced RaQ user, you may never have to deal with any of the support. But for newbies, this can be a problem.
