I meant with regards to transferring domains away from them etc.

I use them thru one of their affiliates, OrderYourDomains.com

I really like the management area but I can never transfer from or to them.

I had one name in paticular that I tried to transfer to one of the top two mutual fund companies ... it was Vanguard

Vanguard phoned and sent registered letters to both me and the registrar without success. This happened about a year ago. We made several attemps before giving up. The latest time was about 3 or 4 months ago.

I also tried to transfer 2 names from DomainPeople.com to Itsyourdomain I get lots of email communication from both claiming they are doing there part, but I never can transfer nor do I know which one is at fault. I really hung in their on this one, I kept following their directions and re-trying the process, must have been 20 or 25 times. Nothing happened.

I had an incident that left me a bit wary of IYD. I had a friend's domain name for his band that was registered and payed for under my name. They acquired a new band member and for some reason she decided to go ahead and pay another year on the domain. Somehow (I don't know how) she paid it, even though it was in my name. The next time I logged in to my account manager at IYD, I had her credit card number. Something was wrong somewhere.

On the other hand, when I transferred my domains away from IYD, I didn't have any problems. And, they always pay promptly on their commission checks. :D

We have NEVER been able to transfer domains away from them without having problems. Sometimes we've had to renew the domains with them to avoid them expiring, which is not good!

I too, have had problems when transferring to another Registrar. Seems they were sending an eMail that required me to click a link -- and they would not include the link!

Had to contact them by phone to get it resolved -- even then they took the max. time allowed for a transfer. They really don't want people transferring it seems.

BTW, they will go lower than their advertized price, to get you to stay with them.

The only way I seem to be able to get them to process transfers is by threatening them.
They usually try to fob you off!

Transferring domains from there is like pulling teeth - with plyers - rusty ones.

I keep my teeth intact by using:

Enom
Stargate
Dotster

I would be thrilled to hear what you did to resolve the issue of them not allowing you to transfer to another registrar. I also had to renew a domain because they refused to release it in a timely manner. And I have two more expiring in August 2004 that I've already tried three times to have transfered. Please see my post at:
webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=260571 . Did you end up having to pay to have them release your domain?

My way of dealing with them is simple:
1. Request transfer to new registrar
2. Wait
3. When transfer refused contact them querying the rejection and pointing them at relevant sections of their own AUP and ICANN rules.
4. Wait for stupid excuse
5. Resubmit transfer request

HAH! I just received several complaints from customers this week about transferring domains away from IYD. It seems you now need to fax a picture ID along with a notarized form (https://secure.onlineaccess.net/secure/cart/rta.php?IYD=1&ID=) to IYD via a non-toll free number, and then, I am told, they ask for additional information beyond that.

IYD has always been questionable, and I am really stupid for trusting them this long with my client's accounts. I'm fronting all of the paperwork and fees associated with getting every single one of my clients (~220) away from these people and into the hands of a legitimate registrar.

Hopefully, nobody else makes the same mistake as I did, by becoming an affiliate. OnlineNIC is 100 times better than IYD.

I wonder if they are legally entitled to make you do all that? I would have thought not.

I haven't had any problems, the transfers away have been non issues, all they requested was a faxed request or an email with the last four digits of the registering credit card, there has to be some protection from just anyone transferring a domain away to another account

I began having problems with ItsYourDomain a couple years ago ever since they failed to provide me with decent customer service. They've given me the run around on almost every domain name I tried to transfer away from them. They always state their "policies" however their policies are AGAINST and in DIRECT VIOLATION of their ICANN agreement and ICANNs "Policy on Transfer of Sponsorship of Registrations Between Registrars". DO NOT register your domain with Its[not]YourDomain.com!
