View Full Version : Favorite Browser??
SoftWareRevue 09-03-2001, 02:07 PM I currently have five browsers. Of course I have my favorite (Yes, I'm an IE junkie), but I like others for different reasons.
When Explorer refuses to work; I just run something else.
I suppose Opera is my second choice; followed by FTP Voyager and NeoPlanet.
If I'm just out having fun; well VIOS is more like a video game. But great fun.
Just was wondering what everyone's preferences were.
determinist 09-03-2001, 02:33 PM I stick to IE as the prior choice on WinOS, follow by Mozilla..
In Linux KDE, I would use Konqueror,
and Gnome, .. Mozilla or Netscape.
JustinK 09-03-2001, 02:33 PM I thought Neoplanet was just a differen't shell to the browser but actually used IE's dll, etc... files to browse with.
The only browsers I've used are IE (my fav because it isn't a pain in the rear like the next one on my used list), Netscape (remove the n & the t and you get the first thing you should do when you open the program), and NeoPlanet which annoyed me as it just seemed to be a IE rip-off.
dherman76 09-03-2001, 02:38 PM I personally like my IE 5.5 however when doing design work, we use Netscape because if it works in Netscape then *generally* it will work in IE.
RunOfTheMill 09-03-2001, 04:32 PM Diddnt Netscap go bankrupt or shut down..a while ago?
IE All the Way!
dherman76 09-03-2001, 04:35 PM Netscape is owned by AOL as is ICQ. Go figure.
AL-Benjamin 09-03-2001, 04:44 PM ie until it crashes.
then i boot up linux and use the new opera release.
anybody using the ie6 beta?
Matthew_J 09-03-2001, 05:19 PM I am using IE 6.0. It isn't a beta anymore either :D It isn't much diffrent expect the icons are better and it has this cookie manager thing that is really nice to block cookies from ad copanies.
AL-Benjamin 09-03-2001, 05:21 PM is it more reliable that ie5.x?

I'm using IE6 now. Not like it could be any worse than any other version.
How about VIOS; anybody else try it?

The worste browsers ever made.
Bad java support, and the words need anti-aliasing
The new browsers are intended for marketing use.
Something like KazZa (how evers it's spelled).
Ever wonder why your homepages keep changing?
Mike the newbie 09-03-2001, 05:52 PM I use Opera 5.12. I like the cookie handling and the security features. Plus it is sleek and fast.
AL-Benjamin 09-03-2001, 06:07 PM i agree, opera is good. it seems to be a lot faster than ie and netscape. i don't know if it actually is though.

LOL... nope... had a crash on it already. Sadly I'm stuck with this bloatware excuse for a browser cos I got it on my test machine when it first released to check compatability on sites and then my primary system died :bawling: To cap it all the darned thing didn't have an uninstaller included (it was that early a beta!)
To give you an idea of the bloat it takes around 5 secs to load on a 640Mb Ram, 1Ghz Duron with 100/IDE. Even Adobe Photoshop6 comes close to loading faster!
I'd recommend you stick with IE5.5. It's a lot more stable and requires less resources. IE6 is somethine I wouldn't load for any other reason that you needed to test your sites on it.
I'm ready to pay for the non advertising version of Opera soon as well. Best of the bunch as far as I can see.
Just my 2 penneth worth.
SoftWareRevue 09-03-2001, 07:11 PM Internet Explorer version 6.0.2600.0000 is the release version.
I couldn't ever get along with any of the betas. But, this has been as good or better than 5.5.
And, I have to argree; "Opera is the fastest browser."
AL-Benjamin 09-03-2001, 07:11 PM does ie6 have a different gui or is it the same as the older one, with different engines or such like?
MCHost-Marc 09-03-2001, 07:20 PM I downloaded IE6 beta a few weeks ago. Looks great, crashes often and doesn't comes with an uninstaller. :D :(
Justice 09-03-2001, 07:40 PM my favorite is IE 5.5
I used to be a netscape junkie until I woke up one day
I wish all of the browsers were standardized. designing sites to fit a variety of browsers is a huge pain in the ass

I'm not sure about the beta but it does come with an uninstaller..
I've installed in on all my computers except for my laptop which i'm having a hard time installing.. Keeps missing a specific file. =/
But anyways.. Back to the topic.. My favorite browser is of course IE 5+.. Nutscape, Opera.. Eww.. I think the page loading on IE6 is a bit faster than older versions..
